A few years ago we were lucky enough to have the greatest therapist of all time, Duey Freeman, join our ranks and drastically change the way we work with men here at UNcivilized. Duey has an amazing and extremely simple psychological developmental model that starts with infants working through a monumental question, "Is the world okay?” In other words — is the world a safe place for me to be? Over the last couple of months we've been thinking about our own unique Men's Work developmental model that starts with a man being able to ask himself the question, "Are men okay?” In other words — is it safe to be around other men? So many men have a deep distrust of other men. Rightly so after years of competition, abuse, bullying, and more — and we absolutely get it. The idea of joining a men's group can be terrifying if you're a man who deeply distrusts other men. Sharing any aspect of yourself to other men can feel like you’re handing someone a weapon they can use against you at any time — but that's not how we UNcivilized men live our lives. As UNcivilized men, we are here to support you through your journey. They're here to answer the question for you with, "Yes, men are okay”. Men can be safe. Men can be strong. Men can be supportive.
