The UNCITRAL secretariat is grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in several #APEC2025Korea activities during SOM1 in Gyeongju: the Workshop on Digital Finance, updating the Investment Experts Group (IEG) and Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) on ongoing and future work in ISDS reform and digital trade, and co-organizing a policy dialogue on secured transactions reform in the region during the Economic Committee (EC) with the support of the Strengthening Economic and Legal Infrastructure (SELI). Many thanks to the APEC secretariat (APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), CTI and EC chairs, and all policy dialogue speakers (pictured) for supporting legal harmonization and the rule of law in international commerce and trade! UNCITRAL looks forward to co-organizing with Hong Kong, China, a workshop on end-to-end trade digitalization during APEC EC2 in Incheon, Republic of Korea this August, and welcomes speaker nominations from APEC member economies.

The UNCITRAL secretariat is organizing the Colloquium: “Navigating the New Era of Digital Finance – The UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions on the Use of New Types of Assets for Secured Financing”. The Colloquium will take place from 20 to 21 February 2025 in New York and focus on the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions, reforms by States and organizations, and the use of emerging assets like digital assets, data, crop and warehouse receipts, and carbon credits as collateral. The Colloquium aims to: ? Improve the understanding on how the emergence of new asset types impacts the Model Law on Secured Transactions and other UNCITRAL texts in this field; ? Take stock of legislative developments by States in their domestic laws and international and regional organizations with regard to secured transactions including new types of assets; ? Take stock of international financing practices using such assets; and ? Assess whether developments related to new types of assets should be considered in the Model Law so to better assist States.
