If your loved one has finally sought treatment for their drinking or drug use, they are starting a journey that will require care and support. "We know that if a person has family and friends who take an interest and engage in their treatment, the outcome is better, so show up for your loved one," says Dan Velez, MSW, a licensed clinical social worker and clinical supervisor at UNC Substance Treatment and Recovery (STAR).

Cardiology and Cardiovascular Services at UNC Health are excited to host the 19th Annual The Beat Goes On: Partnerships in Practice Conference. The conference will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Paramount Parkway in Morrisville, NC. Historically, this conference has been attended by over 100 cardiovascular nurses and allied health professionals from across North Carolina. This year, topics will include cardiogenic shock, transplant services, advanced care at home, and cardiac rehabilitation. Presenters include inpatient, ambulatory care, and procedural physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers from UNC Health and other local institutions. Participants will have the opportunity to utilize the presentations and shared personal experiences to challenge their everyday assumptions in providing holistic care.
