It's not just travel bloggers anymore - mainstream news outlets like CNN are talking about how loyalty programs, miles, AND points are declining in value while the difficulty of using them is shooting up. If you used to get great deals from the miles you earned from flying, or on points from spending that you transferred to different mileage programs, odds are that you've had to work a lot harder to get a deal, or you haven't gotten one in the last year or two.
