In an era marked by challenges that threaten #OurCommonFuture — from escalating conflicts to environmental crises — it's more urgent than ever that we join together to raise our voices to push for urgent and inclusive change ?? We need world leaders and institutions to take immediate action to make global policymaking and decision-making spaces more representative of the communities they serve. Putting more diverse perspectives around the decision-making table is the only way to ensure we don’t continue to repeat past mistakes. Young people recognize this perhaps more than anyone else, as the generation that will live with the consequences of the decisions taken today. By championing intergenerational solidarity and finding innovative solutions even in the most challenging of circumstances, young people remind us that a better world is still possible ?? The Fair Internship Initiative 2024 report has just been released, drawing on data from over 600 interns across the UN system.?The findings emphasize the importance of high-quality, paid internships in creating more equitable and inclusive pathways from education to employment. This year's report shows that while positive changes are underway, more progress has yet to be made. Paid internships performed better across all benchmarks, showing that fair compensation not only opens doors but also enhances the overall workplace and increases organizational efficiencies. Here at the UN Youth Office, we are committed to turning these insights into action by championing policies that prioritize fair, inclusive, and accessible internships in the UN System and beyond. We must nurture young talents, support their growth, and embrace our shared values of diversity and inclusion when it comes to the meaningful employment of youth ??
