As of today, UMass Lowell is officially an R1 university - a designation only given to the top research institutions in the U.S. ? The classification reflects more than $120 million in R&D spending by UMass Lowell each year, much of it involving a wide range of defense, commercial and other academic partners. "Research 1 status reflects UMass Lowell's unwavering commitment to research excellence and innovation, a milestone achieved through the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and students,” said UMass Lowell Chancellor Julie Chen. “This recognition underscores the significant research advancements happening at UMass Lowell and our commitment to creating new knowledge, driving innovation and inspiring discoveries that serve not only our areas of interest but our community and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

Several years of effort and my latest research is now in press! I examine the profound value workers gain from geographic flexibility—the freedom to choose where they live rather than being tied to a single work location. It’s more than just remote work: it’s about rethinking how companies can offer this meaningful benefit in innovative ways. What fascinates me most are the unique attributes of place that hold deep personal and professional significance. A big-picture takeaway: where we live shapes how we thrive! Read pre-pub version of study here https://lnkd.in/e-x3HxMC — huge thanks to Manning School of Business, UMass Lowell and UMass Lowell Research and the esteemed Journal of Organizational Behavior for supporting open access. And a nod to Richard Florida whose work sparked inspiration. ?? ?? #GeographicFlexibility #FutureOfWork #PlaceMatters

Home Base does essential work in helping service members, veterans and military families deal with the invisible wounds of war. Now it's the latest company to join the growing Lowell Innovation Network Corridor. Home Base’s new location in Lowell will help it expand the reach of in-person and telehealth services, while creating further opportunities to work with both UMass Lowell and organizations already on campus. “We’re so pleased to welcome Home Base to Lowell,” said Chancellor Julie Chen. “This partnership allows us to leverage strengths of our university in areas such as psychology, physical therapy and kinesiology, nutrition, medical sensors and devices, and virtual and augmented reality, and apply those to make a meaningful impact on those who’ve served our country.” UMass President Marty Meehan said Home Base’s arrival is another example of LINC’s potential for innovation, in this case to deliver critical care to veterans. “The work happening at UMass Lowell not only improves lives, it strengthens Massachusetts’ leadership in the life sciences,” he said. https://lnkd.in/eJyiK4fJ
