The reality of climate breakdown is painfully clear. Millions of children are suffering. The burning of fossil fuels drives the climate crisis, harming children now and stealing their futures. World leaders committed to “transitioning away from fossil fuels” in the Pact for the Future agreed at the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York. This result was the result of tenacious people power. ?? Now leaders need to turn those words into real action. Parents want a fair, fast and funded transition to renewable energy, so that we can pass on a healthy planet to our children. ?? Ahead of the Summit over 150 + notable parents called on world leaders to end the world's dangerous dependence on fossil fuels. “Real systems change is going to require that we show how local, community-based solutions are the answer: the most effective, most efficient, the least expensive, the most sustainable and resilient.” WATCH: Movement Building for Zero-Waste shares insights from the #community leaders, representing 8 different countries, who attended the Composting for our Future workshop led by groundWork in Durban, South Africa. GroundWork is one of the member organizations of the UMI Fund Lifecycle/Zero-Waste network, a UMI-incubated collective of groups working on environmentally just food waste and climate solutions. It is crucial for global efforts to unite and support local environmental justice efforts to end waste pollution and implement regenerative zero-waste solutions. We believe in change that puts people at the center, protects livelihoods, prioritizes a just and fair transition, and mainstreams #zerowaste models that tackle food waste and methane emissions. Collective, co-designed community efforts are the heart of our work. With funding from UMI Fund, the You(th)Adapt Initiative started implementation of the Intergenerational Climate Justice Conversation Circles in Mbire, Ward 8 & 11 in No 2023. These community dialogues have proven to be a powerful tool to facilitate open and constructive discussions about climate change. Through simple yet thought-provoking questions, we encouraged the older generation to share their experiences How was life for you? How was the climate? How did we treat the planet? What did we do? And what shall we do for future generations? Through this our goal was to ensure the young generation? 1. Learn from practice, traditional knowledge and cultural heritage? 2. Adopt agroecology and other sustainable practices? 3. Create movements around critical issues? 4. Think the business side of climate change? 5. Participate in advocating for change The You(th)Adapt Initiative successfully contributed to the Climate Change Management Bill and the Parks and Wildlife Amendment Bill Consultations?Be on the look for our knowledge product????
