Nick Pand?a, Ph.D., associate research scientist at ARLIS, will present a paper as senior author at the 15th International Symposium on Bilingualism in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain (June 9 – 13). His work, titled “Bilinguals Exert Less Effort Rejecting Non-Targets Compared to Monolinguals in a Novel Auditory Stochastic Figure-Ground Task,” looks for better ways of assessing hearing difficulties in noisy environments, independent of language background.

The UARC for the Human Domain -- providing sociotechnical solutions for hard security and intelligence challenges.
关于我们
The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), based at the University of Maryland College Park, was established in 2018 as a long-term strategic asset for research and development in artificial intelligence, information engineering, and human systems. One of only 14 designated Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation, ARLIS conducts both classified and unclassified applied research and works to serve the US Government and its defense security and intelligence communities as an independent and objective trusted agent. Critical to generating robust analysis and trusted tools in the human domain is the ability to pull together true multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams, grounded both in the technical state of the art and a direct understanding of the complex challenges faced by the defense security and intelligence enterprise. Our renowned research team includes engineers, psychologists, computer scientists, anthropologists, cognitive scientists, political scientists, and linguists, working together with former defense operators and policy makers.

Setting up secure workspaces is costly and time-consuming, so ARLIS is changing the game. Our Commercial Secure Facilities project is developing a flexible testbed to enable secure shared SCIFs that government agencies and small businesses can reserve on demand. Security without the red tape! Read more in our 2024 Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/egfdyyCc #SCIFs #SecurityInnovation
