We are so grateful to have Jason here at UMass Memorial Health - Harrington. Thank you for all that you do!
After almost three decades of responding to emergencies, Jason Osborne, Manager of Emergency Management and Preparedness for?UMass Memorial Health - Harrington, is now applying his expertise to keeping people safe and hospital operations running when the unthinkable becomes reality. “I started my career 29 years ago in EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and spent about 15 years as an emergency room nurse before joining Harrington as a nursing supervisor in 2018,” he said. In March 2020, Jason was tapped to serve in emergency management as response to the COVID-19 pandemic ramped up. “It’s not typical for a nurse to fulfill the role,” he said. “But they had identified the need for a clinical lead in emergency management, and with my background, I seemed like a good fit.” The connections he made as a nursing supervisor and his knowledge of available resources helped him make a smooth transition to the emergency management role. With little implementation time, Jason and his colleagues set up and ran a “very successful” vaccination site. Post-pandemic, Jason oversees Harrington Hospital’s emergency management program, hazard vulnerability assessment, and emergency operations plan, as well as develops preparedness initiatives and training to ensure staff at every level of the organization know how to respond in a crisis. When asked how “relentless” manifests in his work, he said, “For me, it means the continual drive to move forward, to advocate for the need for preparedness even when there isn’t a crisis looming. To really find new and inventive ways to engage the staff to take ownership of what they need to do in a disaster to keep their patients and themselves safe.” #EveryoneEverydayRelentlessly?
