Yesterday, over 30 organizations gathered at the Tri-Community YMCA in Southbridge to provide valuable resources and support to our community. Some of the members of our UMass Memorial Health - Harrington Addiction Immediate Care (AIC) team were proud to be there, offering information on addiction treatments and a wide range of supportive services available to those in need. Keith Syders, a Colorectal Cancer survivor, shares his powerful story - emphasizing the importance of early detection and getting screened regularly. "Syders, now 53, is part of an unfortunate trend in the U.S. Per the?American Cancer Association, in people under age 50, incidence rates for early-onset colorectal cancer have increased by more than 2% per year from 2012 to 2021. In people under age 55, death rates have been increasing by about 1% per year since the mid-2000s." “Early screening might have picked up the cancer at an earlier stage and thus decreased his risk of a subsequent recurrence of colon cancer,” says Syders’ oncologist, Dr. Jeffrey Gordon of the Cancer Center at?UMass Memorial Health - Harrington. Don't wait - schedule your screening today and take charge of your health. Spectrum News - Worcester

Happy International Women’s Day to all of our incredible leaders and caregivers! Your impact on the community is immeasurable and today we celebrate YOU! #internationalwomensday
Today on International Women's Day, we're sharing the faces some of our amazing women leaders across the UMass Memorial Health system! IWD has been celebrated every year on March 8 for more than a century — a day that marks a global celebration of women's accomplishments across social, economic, cultural and political realms. It’s also a reminder to raise awareness about gender equality and to change the rules and systems that hold women back from getting the resources they are entitled to and need to thrive. The IWD 2025 campaign theme is #AccelerateAction. This theme emphasizes the need to swiftly address systemic barriers and biases that women face in personal and professional areas that prevent gender equality. Part of this work involves openly embracing the various intersections of women’s race, age, ability, faith and other aspects of their identity. When the treatment of women is not equitable, we must act. Who is a woman that inspires you to accelerate action for women? Comment their name below! #InternationalWomensDay

Meet Rhiannon Mui, a Registered Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist at?UMass Memorial Health - Harrington. "I always knew I wanted to be in health care because I wanted to help people. Funny enough, I knew I wanted to do ultrasound for a long time before finally going to school for it. My favorite part of my job is making the patient feel important and confident in the job I am doing for them. One of the most memorable moments of my career was when I spotted a finding that was very rare and knew exactly what it was. We were able to change the care plan for that patient in a positive way. I love working with UMass Memorial Health?because they're an organization that listens and make things happen. When I'm not working, you'll find me out fishing for bass with my husband!" All of your patients and fellow caregivers are lucky to have you, Rhiannon! Thank you for being you. #MyUMassMemorialMark #HeartMonth?
