UMass Memorial Medical Center Electrophysiology team recently became the first in New England to use the FARAVIEW software and FARAWAVE NAV ablation catheter by Boston Scientific. The new software and a single catheter instead of multiple catheters used during pulse field ablation mean less time in the procedure, less radiation, less risk. These advancements make UMass Memorial Medical Center a national leader in electrophysiology spearheading advanced Atrial fibrillation treatments for patients.

November marks Transgender Awareness Week and the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), which honors the lives of trans individuals lost to violence, a crisis that disproportionately affects?Queer, Trans, Black and Indigenous People of Color (QTBIPOC)?communities. TDOR, acknowledged annually on November 20, began here in Massachusetts in 1998, following the unsolved murder of Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman from Allston. What started as a local vigil has grown into an international movement, with observances in more than 200 cities across 21 countries. Unfortunately, violence against transgender individuals has only risen since TDOR began, with a disproportionate number of violent acts impacting?QTBIPOC?communities. At UMass Memorial Health, we are committed to providing all caregivers with an environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation.?

It all started with sensations of heartburn that came and went. "The next morning, I decided to see the doctor and I told him, 'the man upstairs sent me here... God.''" That's when she learned she had cancer. Now, as a five-year Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer Survivor, Antonia is ready to open up. When she first learned about her diagnosis, her thoughts immediately went to her strong faith. "It's all God's will," Antonia said... "It's going to be God's decision. So, I kept moving forward with the chemo. In my mind, I didn't have anything." The next few months would look like this: neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by a Whipple Procedure and then adjuvant chemotherapy. Though intense, Antonia kept her positive mindset pushing her foward.? She found herself stronger once on her road to recovery. "I feel great now," she said. "I've been eating well and am gaining a little weight." Antonia couldn't be more thankful for the compassionate and attentive care she received while at the Medical Center. "Everyone was wonderful. I'm really so thankful for all of the doctors and nurses." UMass Memorial’s Cancer Center is a regional leader in cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment.
