Being young nowadays is, in many cases, very hard. Is this a perennial generational truth? Perhaps to some extent, however our new research has found that there is consensus amongst older people in the UK around the fact that being young in 2025 is, in fact, harder than ever. One of the main reasons for this is financial pressure, which can cause and compound mental health struggle. Yesterday, UM came together with MONY Group plc and Campaign Against Living Miserably to launch Money Talks: The Youth Tax, an investigation into youth today and into their financial and mental health. The findings are, in many ways, bleak. Suicide is the biggest taker of young lives (16-24) in the UK. Financial hardship, debt and disenfranchisement can create a feeling of entrapment and failure, which can lead to hopelessness and suicidality. There is a role for trusted adults, and for brands, in helping young people navigate and overcome this particular kind of struggle. So proud to have stood alongside our clients at MONY Group and our longstanding charity partners at CALM in throwing a spotlight onto this simmering crisis in society. Feeling much admiration today for my team-mates, Olivia Wilton and Gabriela Reis de Paiva, for all they've done to bring to life this important and at times gloomy analysis, and for how excellently they presented it, and for Mollie Smith-Halvorsen for delivering our launch event so well. Thank you to Dynata and Motives for powering our fieldwork; thank you to everyone who contributed to this study; and thank you to everyone who came to support our launch yesterday. If you're an advertiser, trade body, charity or public body with a stake in youth audiences, we'd be pleased to present this research in full. Alice Archer ? Andy Riley ? Annabelle Letten ?
