ISR faculty member and NaNDA collaborator Dr. Kim Rollings and co-authors recently?published a new dataset, "Standardized Area Deprivation Index (ADI) by Census Block Group, United States, 2015, 2020 and 2022," which is now available?for download on OpenICPSR. The Standardized ADI recreates three releases of The Neighborhood Atlas team’s ADI using standardized components, offering a more multi-dimensional view of area-level socioeconomic conditions. The Neighborhood Atlas team’s ADI over-emphasizes components measured in dollars, such as home value and income, due to its lack of standardized components. The Standardized ADI remedies this index construction issue by standardizing components before combining them to create the index. Congratulations to Dr. Rollings and her team on this important publication! Note: Although the Standardized ADI remedies the index construction issue by standardizing components, the block group-level Standardized ADI and The Neighborhood Atlas ADI are still based on 1990 census tract data and factor loadings. Available alternative deprivation measures include the Social Deprivation Index, NaNDA’s socioeconomic indices, and the Child Opportunity Index. The National Neighborhood Data Archive (NaNDA) is a publicly available data archive containing measures of the physical, economic, demographic, and social environment at multiple levels of spatial scale (eg, census tract, ZIP code tabulation area, county). Each NaNDA dataset covers all or most of the entire nation (including both rural and urban areas) and represents a set of measures on a single topic of interest, including socioeconomic disadvantage, healthcare, housing, partisanship, and public transit, with temporal coverage dating back to 2000.

The National Neighborhood Data Archive (NaNDA) is excited to announce the latest update to our?Voter Registration, Turnout, and Partisanship by County?dataset, now including data from 2004 through 2022. This comprehensive dataset offers valuable insights into voter registration trends, election turnout, and political partisanship across counties in the United States. Researchers, policymakers, and community organizations can use this data to analyze shifts in voter engagement, study election outcomes, and explore the political landscape at the county level. As with all NaNDA datasets, the information is available for free and adheres to the FAIR data principles, ensuring ease of access and use.
