On November 19th, WICS partnered with Upsilon Pi Epsilon - Michigan Beta Chapter (UPE) to host a CECS Career Panel. This event provided a valuable opportunity for attendees to gain insights from our experienced panelists—Alexandra Alioto, Farzana Fariha, Andrew Johnson, and Hala Shandi. Our panelists shared invaluable advice drawn from their professional journeys, offering students practical knowledge on navigating job searches and securing internships. There was a Q&A session where students could ask questions and receive career advice. Topics covered during the event included various career paths, industry trends, and future outlooks. The panelists also discussed the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the professional world. We would like to thank our: 1. Advisor, Dr. khouloud Gaaloul for her commitment to the organization as well as her support. 2. To expand on instructors I recommend for training, this time I will focus on software development. I go through many hundreds of hours of training per year, and have tried numerous training videos. Here are the ones I found that work best for myself, both cost wise and teaching ability. C++ | John Baugh, Ph.D. | His teaching method was easy to understand as well as very thorough. He has an extensive training class on C++ on Udemy. Swift | CodeWithChris | Chris has an easy-to-understand teaching method that will get you up and running with programming in Swift and making your own apps in no time. Python | Angela Yu | Angela does a great job of teaching Python with many projects along the way. I recommend her 100 Days of Programming, the complete Python Pro bootcamp. Full Stack Developer | For this one I found that Codecademy has been my go-to on training. While you must read most of the training material it goes pretty quickly, and each lesson has hands on exercises to practice your skills. There are also a number of milestone projects that you can add to your portfolio to showcase your knowledge in the subject. You can begin using it at no cost, but to the get the most you'll want a subscription. I would recommend getting a year's subscription as it is the most cost effective and you'll want to use it at least for one year to get the most out of all the various courses. You can't go wrong with any of these courses, and the cost is reasonable for any of them. In no time at all you'll be proficient in the language of your choice. Hayo! ?? I'm back with my second game development blog, diving into Unreal Editor for Fortnite! This time, I'm designing hoard-based levels, similar to that of Call of Duty's Zombies game mode, but with my twist in level design and game design. The blog is packed with insights on using UEFN to make challenging environments, starting with the basics of creating a paper prototype and then transitioning into blocking out levels to build a fully functional level. My goal was to shed some light on essential level design principles I learned during this process, making it easy for beginners (like myself!) to understand my approach to level creation. I also touched on pair programming with the Verse coding language, which enables UEFN developers to create new items and mechanics. I discuss using Verse to build the overall game mode, including features like wall weapons and mystery boxes. Check it out if you're up for a quick read on level design! My next project on Unreal Editor for Fortnite will be creating an Overwatch-inspired Escort-Control (Hybrid) Map. ?? I had an incredible experience attending Hack Dearborn 3: Rewind Reality, where I led a dynamic team project! After insightful conversations with an Amazon employee, our team recognized a growing need for a tool that automates and simplifies API security assessments. I had the opportunity to coordinate the full-stack development of an open-source system, using JavaScript and Python to analyze API logs and identify top security risks using machine learning. Here are a few key achievements from our team: ?? Frontend Design: Developed interactive reports and visualizations using Chart.js and D3.js. ?? AI Integration: Built an AI chatbot with NLP and Scikit-learn to simulate security audits and guide users through best practices. ?? Efficiency Gains: Reduced manual security checks by 40%, significantly improving efficiency! ?? Seamless Integration: Created a website that fully integrates the frontend and backend for a smooth user experience, including chatbot functionality. Greatings Everyone! I'm excited to tell you all about my experience with my first ever hackathon, Hack Dearborn 3! Everything from the community and collaborative atmosphere to the adrenaline of problem-solving and creating something new made it an unforgettable experience. Being an app developer for the events mobile app and a participant at the event brought upon many memories that I will forever cherish. Huge thanks to all the organizers and a special shoutout to Shams Ahson for directing the event as I will remember it all for years to come. I would also like to thank my team Kassem Ataya and Mohammad El-Chami for all their amazing work in making our project for the event come to life. We developed a web app named JudgedByAI which is an interactive debate game where two players debate eachother about any given issue. Then they will be Judged by our impartial AI Judge who will decide the winner based on their performance. The AI also gives details on how the winner/loser came to be, all in an effort to help people improve their argumentative skills and become better debaters. Lastly I would like to thank my development lead Ali Bdeir for being an awesome lead on both the website and mobile app. He provided me with the opportunity to be a Senior developer. Which was a great experience that cemented my knowledge with React Native and other framworks.
