Case Study: Heavy Machinery meets Ultimate Linings Polyurea Coatings A heavy machinery manufacturer encountered significant challenges with damage occurring inside the hydraulic equipment they produced. The quick and inconsistent movements of the machinery caused the ram to collide with the cylinder in specific areas, leading to wear and damage. This issue resulted in increased warranty claims and repairs, prompting the manufacturer to seek a solution to provide impact and abrasion resistance while enhancing product quality for their customers. Ultimate Linings hybrid polyurea, XT-211, was selected to address these challenges. The process included the following steps: 1. Component Preparation: ? Cylinder components were aggregate blasted to ensure a clean surface, followed by priming with P1224. While aggressive hand sanding was an option, the high-performance requirements necessitated a high-quality bond. 2. Coating Application: ? XT-211 was sprayed at a thickness of approximately 125 mils, focusing only on the areas where the ram and cylinder could potentially contact, as per the customer’s request. ? The components were ready for full use within 24 hours. Applying XT-211 provided a cushioned operating area for the hydraulic cylinders, significantly reducing wear and damage. This protective coating resulted in fewer rework requirements for the manufacturer and a decrease in warranty claims. The addition of Ultimate Linings’ coating improved the functionality and value of the hydraulic system, leading to increased customer satisfaction. Each cylinder component was sprayed in less than an hour, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of the solution.
