Pam Renner, MPA,?Anika Mehta, and Andrew McCart represented the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences and University of Louisville - Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences at the Kentuckiana Health Collaborative's Annual Conference, 'Aligning for Whole Person Health.'? Whole person health involves taking a holistic view of a person’s health and well-being that includes social, environmental, biological, and behavioral factors. A person-centered, integrated system of health that focuses on drivers of health beyond just the physical provides the US healthcare system the best opportunity to prevent disease, restore health, and optimize the health and well-being of our communities. ? Among the highlights were the keynote speaker, Dr. David R. Williams, the Florence and Laura Norman Professor of Public Health; Professor of African and African American Studies and Sociology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and past speaker at Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA)'s Annual Meeting.

Why do some people living in Rural Southern United States communities face more health related concerns? The Rural Heart and Lung Study aims to address critical gaps in our knowledge of heart and lung disorders in rural counties across the Southeast U.S. including Breathitt and Perry Counties. WYMT’s Steve Hensley talked about this research and why it’s being done with Dr. Stephanie Boone, an associate professor with the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences on "Issues and Answers." A couple weeks ago Card Talk hosted their first session, presented by Yathreb Bayan, from the Department of Health Management and System Sciences. Yathreb's research focuses on the potential use of asparaginase as a treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The study investigates the enzyme's stability and efficacy, aiming to enhance therapeutic outcomes for patients by utilizing a novel biotechnological approach. Through rigorous experimentation, Yathreb seeks to contribute to the development of safer and more effective treatment options for this challenging malignancy. Congratulations to Yathreb on a successful talk and her innovative research. SPHIS is proud to have exceptional scholars, and elated to see them present their work.
