On February 10, 2025, Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency has amended the positive list of monomers, other initiating substances and polymers authorized for the preparation of plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food (ANVISA/RDC Resolution No. 961 OF 02/06/2025). The revisions are as follows: Annex I: List of Monomers And Other Authorised Initiating Substances ? Inclusion of Tetramethyl Bisphenol F Diglycidyl Ether (TMBPF-DGE) = reaction product of tetramethyl bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)methane and epichlorohydrin Annex II: List of Authorised Polymers ? Inclusion of Polyamide-imide 2 (PAI-2) = poly-N-(4,4'- diphenylmethane trimelitamide imide), produced by the reaction of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane with benzoyl chloride-3,4-dicarboxylic anhydride. On Jan. 10, the European Commission (EC) Directorate-General for Environment published guidelines to facilitate the harmonized application of provisions on the removability and replaceability of portable and light means of transport (LMT) batteries in Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (Article 11), which will be applicable starting Feb. 18, 2027. As these batteries can be incorporated in a wide range of products, manufacturers of those batteries and end products must prepare accordingly. On February 6th, 2025, the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has issued the 25th Edition of Restricted Substance List (RSL). The new version covers 16 categories with more than 250 chemicals and is updated to reflect additions or changes to regulations and laws that restrict or ban certain chemicals in finished apparel, footwear, accessories, and home textile products. The RSL supports the industry by providing a reference of all banned and restricted chemicals and substances for finished apparel, footwear, accessories, and home textile products, identifying the most restrictive regulations worldwide. The report also offers an Appendix on Reporting that covers the U.S. states whose laws require reporting of chemicals in children’s products as well as European reporting rules.
