Earlier this year, FSRI researchers completed experiments to understand electric vehicle (EV) fire behavior. Following initial data analysis and input from the project’s technical panel, the research team is in Northbrook, IL, this week to investigate the effectiveness of water suppression.?Findings from this phase will contribute to future tactical considerations and training resources to help enable the fire service to conduct safe and effective size-up and suppression strategies. Congratulations to Professor Yeng Ming Lam, Chair of NTU School of Materials Science and Engineering, for winning the 2024 UL Research Institutes-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women in the Senior Scientist category. Prof Lam was honoured at the 86th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-86) for her outstanding research on functional nanostructured #materials that underscores the role of #science in creating a sustainable environment — a focus in line with this year’s prize theme, Climate Resilience and Adaptation. For instance, one of her innovations is a nanogel #technology called RentenSol-G that significantly improves soil wettability and water retention, useful for agricultural soil during dry seasons. The invention has now been spun off into a #deeptech company. This award highlights Prof Lam's dedication to advancing #sustainability and her role as a leading female #STEM scientist in the region. #NTUsgProfs #Awards #Recognition

Two weeks ago, we hosted a salon event focused on equity in STEAM featuring inspiring youth from Girl Up USA as well as leaders from UL Research Institutes' Materials Discovery Research Institute (MDRI) and UL Standards & Engagement.
