SFO General Counsel Sara Lawson KC recently delivered a keynote speech at the 33 Chancery Lane Business Crime Conference, speaking to a wide audience of legal professionals about the future work of the SFO. ? She outlined the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA) powers, including the ‘failure to prevent fraud’ offence, set to take effect in September 2025, and discussed changes to corporate criminal liability.? ? We’re hiring an Investigator Development & Assessment Manager. The SFO’s success is reliant upon its most valuable resource: a flexible, knowledgeable, and skilled workforce. Our Trainee Investigator Programme ensures Trainees develop skills and gain investigatory experience across SFO operational functions. The Investigator Development and Assessment Manager will manage the running of the Trainee Investigator Programme to ensure trainees reach their full potential and acquire qualified Investigator level competency and behavioural standards within 18 months. The purpose of the Investigator Development and Assessment Manager role is to manage the recruitment and training for Trainee Investigators to ensure training is aligned to the standards of the College of Policing Authorized Professional Practice and the Government Counter Fraud Profession, and that the SFO investigation standards, values, and behaviours are embedded within trainee roles. Andy Parratt of the Serious Fraud Office (UK) discusses the nature and volume of cases at the SFO at #ACiSYMP24 at Evelyn Partners. As well as the adoption of AI technologies to introduce efficiencies, Andy spoke about the new Failure to Prevent Fraud offence and how the SFO welcomes this development as a means of holding companies accountable when they fail to address potential fraud risks. “This is a revolution in corporate accountability,” Andy said.
