??UKGBC responds to the Climate Change Committee's Seventh Carbon Budget. Smith Mordak, CEO of UKGBC, said: “The Climate Change Committee's Seventh Carbon Budget is a welcome call to action for our industry. The UK is trailing on building decarbonisation compared to other European nations and we must catch up fast if we are to achieve the significant emissions reductions required by 2040.?? In this budget the Climate Change Committee make clear we need urgent action to electrify heating, insulate our homes and buildings, and limit embodied carbon. The budget calls for clear policy including stronger building regulations, investment to finance the transition, and making electricity cheaper.?? The cost of inaction remains far greater than the price of transition. By acting now we can ensure that the places we live and work enable people and planet to flourish.” ???Read Smith's full response here: https://lnkd.in/eQ5Xzdrr

?? UKGBC responds to the rise in energy price cap. Today, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) announced an increase to the energy price cap, marking the third consecutive hike on gas and electricity caps. ??Anna Hollyman, Co-Head of Policy & Places at UKGBC, said: "Today’s energy price cap rise underlines how vulnerable our homes remain to gas price spikes and global politics... We urgently need a National Retrofit Strategy that ensures all homes are upgraded so they are cheaper to keep warm, kept free of damp and mould, and more resilient to future climate impacts." ???Read Anna's full response here: https://lnkd.in/g3crGgXh

??Did you know that 61% of total UK waste comes from construction, demolition, and excavation? Materials passports are an innovative tool that digitally store key information on construction materials and products, supporting the recovery and reuse of these materials over their life cycle. A wide range of solutions exist which can facilitate the creation, storage, and use of these passports, helping manufacturers, designers, and owners to store and track key information about the composition of their buildings. ??Learn more about these platforms: https://lnkd.in/gBrh_bTc ??We'd like to thank our partner One Click LCA for supporting our Solutions Library. #MaterialsPassports #CircularEconomy #ResourceUse

??What are environmental product declarations (EPDs) and how do they relate to materials passports? ??In our latest blog, Andrew Cowan of One Click LCA explores how EPDs are crucial for assessing a material's global warming potential (GWP) and breaking this information into core life-cycle stages. In order for EPDs to drive greater materials passport adoption, stakeholders across the built environment must collaborate to: -Standardise data collection -Enhance material traceability -Integrate passports into Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows Digital tools such as life-cycle assessment (LCA) software and global material databases can facilitate this and contribute to a more circular built environment. ??Read Andrew's full blog here: https://lnkd.in/est2KiCw ??New to Materials Passports?
