Ujima Legacy Fund: Giving Together to Support Our Youth
关于我们
Ujima funds nonprofit projects that positively impact youth and young adults, ages 12 to 21 years, with emphasis on underserved youth populations. And, since 2013, Ujima has contributed more than $448,000 to 21 organizations that are transforming children’s lives through education-related initiatives. Through collective giving, Ujima works to increase the philanthropic impact and presence of Black men in the Richmond region. Members learn more about community issues and the organizations that are addressing those issues most effectively. Recipients get a boost of visibility for their programs that often leads to additional support for their work.

Chuck James is a litigator that will go to any length for his clients and I’m truly blessed to watch him work on a daily basis. It’s the personal touch and passion for his work that makes him THE BEST! So proud of you sir and congratulations on this monumental achievement!
Experienced litigator, former federal prosecutor, Chief Deputy Attorney General (Virginia) and problem solver for companies and individuals facing legal, regulatory, enforcement and criminal challenges.
This case was one of the longest running, most challenging and rewarding cases of my career. I will never forget the two calls described in the linked article. Our team of Williams Mullen attorneys and support staff were joined by accountants, investigators and others to mount a vigorous defense. The result was the government dismissing all 28 counts of the indictment against my client, just weeks before a complex two-week jury trial. I couldn’t be more proud of our effort, the result and my client’s resiliency. I can’t wait to see how Gene bounces back. I am in his corner! #whitecollarcrime #chargesdismissed

It is with great sadness we share the news that our Founder and former Markel Chairman, Alan Kirshner, passed away on Sunday March 17, 2024. Mr. Kirshner founded Partnership for the Future after reading an article about the obstacles faced by a Washington, D.C. first-generation, high-achieving student to attend college. Determined to eliminate barriers for college-bound students in the Richmond area, Mr. Kirshner assembled a team of business, educational, and community leaders to establish Partnership for the Future. His commitment to educational equity resulted in nearly 1,000 students achieving their dream of graduating from college. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year we are grateful for his vision and know that his legacy lives on through our students.

The work of nonprofits and philanthropies has been invaluable to efforts to create a more equitable society. In a Daily Journal article, Ann O'Leary, Illyana Green, and I discuss strategies to protect this important work in light of evolving anti-DEI attacks.?
In the wake of the landmark US Supreme Court decision Students for Fair Admissions, Inc v. President and Fellows of Harvard College, Edward Blum, the founder of Students for Fair Admissions, has advanced a three-pronged attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts: first, in higher education, then on corporate diversity and hiring, and now the group is working to chill race-based funding and grantmaking activity. Partners Ann O'Leary and Marcus A.R. Childress and Associate Illyana Green discuss what to expect as philanthropic organizations and grantmaking activities will likely continue to be heavily scrutinized in the lead up to the 2024 US Election.????
