  • We know this time of the semester can be stressful for all students, so we had a unique opportunity (and visitor) last Wednesday. Students were able to destress with UIC Therapy dog, Pawfficer Ham. UIC and UICPD?continuously make efforts to enhance mental health advocacy by implementing a therapy dog program. The presence of a therapy dog has proven to be immensely beneficial in reducing stress, alleviating anxiety, and offering a calming companion when needed.?

  • Thank you to all the students who presented their research at the Fall 2024 Honors Research Symposium. This monumental event allows Honor students to showcase their research and Capstone projects. The Capstone Project is commensurate with the expectations of traditional departmental honors theses, senior design projects, and other senior research/inquiry projects.

  • Read the UIC Today article featuring Honors Student and 2024 Lincoln Laureate! Monica Padilla credits UIC with giving her the tools to keep her eyes on her goal: attending medical school and serving her community as a bilingual physician. “UIC has really offered that support system,” said Padilla. “Since freshman year, my advisor Kathryn Burns-Howard in the Honors College has let me know, ‘You’re doing amazing; here are some opportunities.’” (Photo: Martin Hernandez/UIC) Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/g3sr2Q3J

  • Thank you to everyone involved in our Flames For Change event! This particular event explored the current and future state of Artificial Intelligence through a mental health lens. This could not have been done without our student-led panelists, Gaeun Lee (GL) and Arya Aitipamula, for leading our discussion with Dr Ranga Chandrasekaran (Professor -Information & Decision Sciences) and Dr Theja Tulabandhula (Assistant - Professor - Information and Decision Sciences). The Equity Diversity Inclusion Committee has created Flame For Change, a series meant to harvest, develop, and prepare talented UIC students for a more complete and comprehensive professional life that better educates, engages, and encourages the best that they can offer.

  • What an incredible and significant milestone in the history of not only the Honors College but UIC as a whole! We, as a campus, recently celebrated the retirement of Stacie McCloud, Associate Dean of the Honors College, with Jay Mueller, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff in the UIC Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement. Stacie's remarkable journey spans a remarkable 32 years of dedicated service within the Honors College. From her start as an Honors student to staff, she has built what embodies the spirit and essence of the Honors College itself.

BS in Data Science with a Health Data Science Concentration

Alhamdulillah - All praise is due to Allah. On Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, I graduated from the UIC Honors College. Three days later, on Saturday, May 4th, 2024, I graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Data Science with a Health Data Science Concentration. Alongside my degree, I completed a Minor in Computer Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics. Throughout my time at the University of Illinois Chicago, I had the privilege of being involved in undergraduate research within the College of Engineering for three years with Renata Revelo, Ph.D. I also had the opportunity to serve as the Co-President of the largest student organization on campus, the Muslim Student Association at UIC. None of this would have been possible without the support and guidance of my family, friends, professors, TAs, and advisors. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey! #UICGrad24
