Texas Women in Higher Education (TWHE) recently announced the recipients of the 2025 Institutional Event and Leadership Development Grants that support women in higher education. Recipients will pursue individual projects that support their professional goals, followed by attending the TWHE annual conference March 30 – April 1, 2025, in Houston. Congratulations to University of Houston-Clear Lake grant recipients Pamelyn Shefman, PhD, Executive Director of Planning and Assessment; Esther Herrera, MBA, Senior Manager of Training and Development; Shreerekha Pillai, Associate Dean, College of Human Sciences and Humanities; and Marci R. McMahon, PhD, Executive Director, Center for Faculty Development. Through the grant, this group will launch an initiative in Spring 2025 with a kick-off event titled “The Next 50 – UHCL Panel on Creating Leaders for our Next 50 Years”. The event will include a panel of UHCL female leaders to share their leadership paths and stories of individual impact and resilience. It will include networking and a call to action to help solicit participant and facilitator interest in “Leaders in Flight”, a cohort-based leadership workshop series. The leadership program is designed to build sustainable leadership paths for the next 50 years.

Congratulations to the 2024 UHCL Finalist: Dr. Charuksha Walgama,?Assistant Professor of Chemistry, College of Science and Engineering. The award, which recognizes superior teaching at the college level in the State of Texas, is organized by the MINNIE STEVENS PIPER FOUNDATION. The Dr. Walgama is eligible to be selected for one of ten $5,000 awards. The ten state-level winners will be announced by the foundation in May 2025.?
