  • ?? We’d like to say a huge thank you to this amazing group of fundraisers who took on the Escape from Meriden 100k challenge and raised an incredible £1,616 for Fisher House! ?? Fisher House is our military home from home, providing free accommodation to military personnel and their family as they go through treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Fisher House is located just a 5-minute walk away from the hospital, meaning families are able to stay together at an extremely difficult time. ? The team of 4 are ex-military and also members of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire Freemasons. In 2028, the Province of Warwickshire will be celebrating its 300-year anniversary and to celebrate they are making immensely generous donations to support Fisher House, our military home away from home. Our fabulous fundraisers wanted to do something to support Fisher House, so decided to take on the epic Escape from Meriden challenge earlier this month! ?? We are so grateful to our Fisher House fundraisers, thanks to them we are able to continue supporting military families when they need it most. For more information about Fisher House and ways to support, visit ? fisherhouseuk.org

  • We'd like to say a big thank you to Sean McDermotts GAA Birmingham for supporting our Children with Cancer Appeal that helps young patients going through radiotherapy treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The GAA World Games Men’s International Football Champions of 2023 held a footy tournament in the summer and the players, their families, supporters and wider Gaelic Games family raised an incredible £2,000. Thank you so much for supporting our brave mini superheroes when they need that extra courage to get them through treatment. One of the ways in which we support our young patients is by paying for their radiotherapy masks to be painted as their favourite superheroes from Spiderman to Elsa. We also fund personalised blankets to keep them warm during treatment and little Linac building brick sets so the radiographers can explain the process to them using the toy, meaning they are less likely to be scared and needing anaesthetics. If you would like to know more about what this fabulous donation will be going towards, you can read more: https://lnkd.in/eX4rF55E

This Sunday is #WorldPrematurityDay and we'd like to celebrate the incredible work being done by staff to support the families of our neonatal patients at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Every year over 1,000 babies are cared for on the neonatal units at Good Hope and Heartlands, nearly half of those babies are born premature. Having your baby need specialist care can be incredibly scary for parents. In some cases, they can wait up to 4 months to be able to bring their baby home for the first time. This is why we are campaigning to fund our two neonatal family support workers - who work with families to help them understand what is happening and be more confident caring for their baby. This helps to reduce the stress and fear felt by parents and help them prepare for going home. Find out more about how we support our youngest patients and their families by clicking the link ?? newbornsinneed.org.uk

  • Fisher House UK celebrated its 11th Anniversary this year, helping thousands of military families in their time of need. Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity wouldn’t be able to keep Fisher House open on site, if it wasn’t for our amazing supporters like Royal British Legion, Army Benevolent Fund, The Veterans' Foundation, RAF Benevolent Fund, SSAFA the Armed Forces charity and the Red Arrows Trust. We also have a fantastic partnership with Warwickshire Freemasons who have chosen to partner with Fisher House UK for its Provincial Tercentenary 2028 Appeal, celebrating its 300-year anniversary. They are making immensely generous donations to support Fisher House over the next 4 years leading up to this momentous anniversary. These generous donors help the Charity to be able to offer free nights of accommodation to the families of military personnel and veterans when they need it most, so they can be near their loved ones while they have life-saving treatment. Fundraising Director at the Charity, Charlotte Schofield, said, "Fisher House is a lifeline to families longing to be near each other while their loved one is being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. “We are truly grateful to these incredible supporters who continue to help the invaluable work of Fisher House, allowing us to keep this amazing facility open so families can be together.” Fisher House costs £300,000 a year to run. By pledging £40, you can provide a night’s accommodation for the family of a military patient so they can be close to their loved one. You can help us today by becoming a Friend of Fisher House and donating here: https://fisherhouseuk.org Thank You ??
