Last Friday, the UGA Mentor Program welcomed over 200 mentors and mentees to the The Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel for a beautiful night of connection and mentorship. It was such an honor to host such a tremendously impactful event, and I am so proud of those who took advantage of this opportunity! Amber Guyton (she/her), Sherry Murdock Moreland, Stephanie Mann, and LaToya Stephens knocked it out of the park with their insightful responses as they served on a panel moderated by Farah Charaniya, one of our UGA Mentor Program Student Ambassadors. I also want to thank our Employer Sponsors who not only helped make this night possible, but fully engaged with our students and alumni all night long! Thank you Synovus (Rick Dreger, Ashley H. McWilliams, Virginia Maxwell), The Honey Pot Company (Crystal Ivey, MBA, Jazmyn Williams, Courtney L. Bartley) Teach For America (Miesha Adams), and Enterprise Mobility (Neci Sampleton, SHRM-CP, Jasmine Dankins) for all you do for our students and this campus community! Lastly, I want to highlight our incredible campus partners and colleagues who also provided support for this night - y'all are the best and so, so appreciated!

It was such a pleasure to facilitate "Live and Work in Boston" for the UGA Career Center's Arch Ready program yesterday! We brought together Boston Alumni Chapter President Dustin Henderson, Mahima Jain, Shivani Khatu, and Elizabeth Quilliams to discuss life in a new city, career transitions, the benefits of a graduate degree, and finding meaningful work with a liberal arts degree. It was great to hear a variety of experiences from our UGA Alumni and UGA Mentor Program mentors from University of Georgia - Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the UGA College of Pharmacy!

Yesterday, a group of more than 20 The University of Georgia students representing pre-health majors in the University of Georgia - Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, UGA Mary Frances Early College of Education, and the University of Georgia College of Public Health embarked on a Career Caravan to visit with and participate in demonstrations from Augusta University's faculty and students in the College of Allied Health Sciences and the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Students were involved in simulations in Radiation Therapy, Clinical Laboratory Science, Respiratory Therapy, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Dental Hygiene, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, and the Physician Assistant program. In their feedback, our students raved about the interactivity of each program visit, the networking opportunities with Augusta staff and students, and the inspiration the visit gave them to consider a wider array of health fields. A very big thank you goes out to Dr. Judith Stallings, Alicia Frontera, Marlene Murray, and Candice Yates of Augusta University for organizing such a transformative visit for our students, to Kristina Rust, M.A. for proposing and preparing our students for the trip, and to Megan Brock, Ph.D., Julie Jaeger, and Janieria Dupree, M.Ed. for leading what was a very successful day of learning for future peach state practitioners! #GoDawgs #UGA #CareerServices #PreHealth #AlliedHealth

In the last few weeks, I know many friends, colleagues and former students who have been fired from or left their positions in the federal government. For many, this is the conclusion of a career in public service where they served the mission of their organization, pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and worked for more modest wages than the private sector to serve their country (and all of us.) This can be a difficult transition leaving many to wonder even how to begin. I want to help and the University of Georgia- Washington Semester wants to help by connecting alumni with those who have lost their lobs to assist with their job search. If you have lost your job with the federal government or want to help those who have, please go to https://bit.ly/WSPJobs and we will connect those looking for a job with fellow Bulldogs who want to help. Please share this info far and wide so we can assist our alumni who are seeking out new opportunities.

I have a lot to say about our recent Diversity in the Workforce Career Conference! First, after spending months orchestrating the logistics of this signature event, I am glad to see that it served 96 students from across campus. Shoutout to our UGA Griffin campus students who made the drive to attend the conference! More importantly, we added a new element to the conference by providing a poster session that students in our Women in the Workplace Career Readiness program facilitated. These students put together some FANTASTIC posters that conference attendees were excited to engage with. Molly Roberts, Dami Odubola, Lauren Baker, Allison Damron, Morgan Vicha, Emily DePaolo, and Aubrey Skinner did a wonderful job presenting on an array of topics practicing #publicspeaking #posterdesign #discussingresearch #conductingresearch #dynamiccommunicationskills. I look forward to you building on this experience! #womenintheworkplace Next, our fabulous keynote,Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander, provided us with such deep and insightful food for thought. She discussed the importance of recognizing intersectionality and "being the reason someone feels loved, seen, welcomed, heard, valued, appreciated, and respected." I cannot thank you enough for giving us your time, energy, and thoughtfulness. ???????? We had an incredible student panel during our concurrent sessions which featured my extraordinary GA, Amy Gutierrez-Luviano. Amy provided important insights and perspectives to our audience of campus partners and recruiters. Amy, thank you for your willingness to serve as a panelist. Thank you to Lexie Rouse for serving as a marvelous moderator for our panel session. You did a fantastic job! Thank you to my UGA Career Center team who supported this event in a number of ways from engaging with employers, marketing, checking in students, event logistics and everything in between. I attribute the success of this event to all of you. Go dawgs! ????
