SASE at the University of Florida

关于我们

The Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers is a student-led organization at the University of Florida. We welcome companies and individuals to support our efforts to connect across cultures, and companies to enable APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) professionals in science and engineering to achieve their full potential. Through our meetings and events, we help shape skills and provide knowledge that will allow our members to succeed in the professional world. No matter what major you are, we provide a friendly atmosphere to help you land that internship or job, or to network with other like-minded individuals. Our mission is to prepare Asian heritage engineers and scientists for success, celebrate diversity, and provide opportunities for members to make contributions to our local communities.

  • For GBM 2: SASE Baby ??, our members learned all about how to be better bosses in their own lives. We learned about different leadership techniques?? and even how to apply for SASE leadership positions! SASE members also learned how to get more involved on campus and practiced their communication and networking skills. In addition, we kicked off our M&M week with our mentor-mentee reveal ??????. Afterwards, we went to Huey Magoo's for our aftersocial to get some yummy food ??! We hope everyone is excited to get to know their new mentors and mentees. We are also eternally grateful to have had Tyler Lin drive all the way from Cape Canaveral to talk to us about the design team experiences ??? he had in college that allowed him to land multiple Tesla internships and finally a fast-paced but rewarding job at SpaceX!

“The most impactful thing that SASE has provided is all the friends I have right now,” said Vincent Lin, a computer science major and SASE president. “It provides a community where I feel at home.” In 2024, the national SASE - Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers chapter named UF SASE - Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers as one of its two Overall Strongest Chapters (out of 86 chapters). • We kicked off 2025 with our first general body meeting, PhineSASE and Ferb! ?? We learned strategies to approach the upcoming career fair and how to make an impression. ?????In addition, we discovered the science behind goal setting ?? and productivity. We hope all our members learned how to create some healthy habits and live out those New Year’s resolutions! Thank you to Nhu Dinh Dihn for being our Alumni Spotlight for this GBM! We appreciated hearing about Nhu’s experience during her time at UF and her involvement as our previous treasurer and secretary. Nhu currently works at Boeing as a Materials, Physics, & Processes Engineer and everyone here at UF SASE - Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers looks forward to seeing what she will achieve next. Thank you to everyone who attended! ?? ?

  • We are so proud of our SASE Engineering Team (SET) for their work over the fall semester! ?? ?? Led by our Technical Chairs Manav Sanghvi and Kevin Tang, SET is currently working on "RescueGator," a search-and-rescue robotic dog that can help find injured individuals after natural disasters. So far, SET has developed an excellent cardboard prototype that mimics the walking physics of a larger-scale robotic dog. Furthermore, they've adapted and created machine learning models for computer vision and audio software to detect injured persons and screams. Last month, they presented these prototypes to over 170 SASE members at our winter banquet. SET has been a great way for our members to learn technical skills while also collaborating with other like-minded students. We are excited to see the completed RescueGator project demonstrated by the end of the spring semester!

  • We are so thankful to our amazing interns who planned the entirety of our 4th GBM: SASE Game 2 ?? ! We went on the dangerous and risky mission to win epic squid game prizes! Our dedicated interns implemented several exciting games for SASE members to compete in such as tug-of-war, a paper version of the Dalgona cookie challenge ?? and Guess Who? Shout out to everyone who helped plan this event and all those who came out to make SASE GAME 2 special. We had a blast playing all these games at our last GBM, and we look forward to seeing everyone next semester! We would also like to thank to Jesse Siu, our previous Alumni and Academic chair for joining us for the alumni spotlight??. She discussed exploring opportunities outside of one's major. Jesse graduated as an ISE major but has taken on a variety of roles such as data analyst, technical consultant, and more recently, associate client manager at NielsenIQ.

  • For GBM 3, SASE joined the Scooby gang to solve the mystery ?? behind stress and opportunities that our members can pursue outside internships! In order to handle stress, make sure to follow healthy lifestyle choices such as meal prepping for nutritious meals ?? and exercising ??! In addition, our members took part in laughter yoga that made sure everyone was a little less stressed leaving the GBM ??! We were also extremely lucky to have one of our former PIE (President, Internal VP, External VP) board members join us for the Alumni spotlight! Camille Hernandez, our 2020-2021 SASE president, currently works at SLB. Nicole C., our ‘20-’21 SASE IVP currently works at Universal Destinations & Experiences. Alexis Navarroza our ‘20-’21 currently works at KLS Martin Group. Our alumni spoke about how they leveraged their summers? and time at UF to tailor their careers to lead them where they currently are. They all took the time to acknowledge that internships are not the only way to spend summers and taking classes ?? , doing research ?? , or working are all useful experiences too! We are so glad they took the time to come back and talk to our SASE members, and we look forward to seeing more of their successes in the future

  • Thank you so much to everyone for coming out to our second UF SASE - Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers GBM! ?? For this GBM, we channeled our inner Big Hero SASE. To begin, our members scrambled to find others to complete a Baymax puzzle ?? and then created some creative handshakes ??. We began our content discussion with how to make professional connections in industry and in academia. Members were encouraged to use career fairs and office hours to develop meaningful and potentially advantageous connections. ?? In addition, in order to make new friends, our SASE members learned how to get more involved on campus and how to make meaningful connections with others. Hopefully, everyone met some new friends at the GBM! ?? After the GBM we had our mentor-mentee reveal and went to Bento for our after social ??. A special thank you to Daniel Nguyen, a previous UF SASE president, for being our Alumni spotlight ?? and sharing how he made the most of his time at UF and SASE. Now he works at Boeing ?? while pursuing his master’s degree. He gave advice on how he manages a work-life balance and goes about making personal and professional connections both currently and during his college years.
