Established in 1933, the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Florida offers the only professionally-accredited Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program in the State of Florida. It is also home to the State’s oldest graduate Landscape Architecture program, offering both an accredited Masters and a Ph.D. concentration in landscape architecture. In the U.S. News & World Report rankings, the University of Florida is ranked as a Top 5 public university. The mission of the Department of Landscape Architecture is to conduct research to enhance the understanding and practice of the profession of landscape architecture, and address societal challenges; train practitioners and scholars who are committed to advancing the efficacy, impact and knowledge of the discipline of landscape architecture; and provide service to the diverse communities of our state, region and abroad.

At the beginning of October, students from Professor Rui Hu's Site Design and Planning Studio, along with University of Florida Department of Interior Design students in Dr. Shabboo Valipoor's seminar course, took a trip to Jacksonville for a site visit. Collaborating with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Jacksonville and Kristopher Smith, the students were able to meet with representatives from St. Johns Riverkeeper, City of Jacksonville Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, and on-site contractors, as well as some neighborhood residents, for perspectives and insights to inform their projects. #UFLAdventures
Today was day one of the Florida Adaptation Symposium which our School of Landscape Architecture and Planning helped sponsor, along with Florida Sea Grant, Florida Climate Institute, and Environmental Defense Fund. Our very own Department Chair, Jules Bruck, was part of the organizing committee and Assistant Professor, Andrea Galinski, spoke at the symposium today. The symposium aims to spotlight solutions to flooding in Florida in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment that fosters the exchange of ideas and learned experiences.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Fall Undergraduate Research Expo brought the Reitz Union to life with innovative ideas and exciting projects. The University of Florida Department of Landscape Architecture made a strong impact, showcasing work from Dr. Yi Luo, PhD, PLA and her research assistants, Haoting Hong and Rui Hu and the Center for Landscape Conservation Planning. An exceptional capstone project by a recent graduate was also featured. Representing the department and research center, Belinda Nettles, Ph.D. and Haoting Hong captivated the attention of students and researchers across campus, sparking conversations and inspiring new collaborations with their insightful presentations.
Congrats to 2010 UF LA graduate Robert Bias for being promoted to Director of Landscape Architecture for RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture's Orlando office.
