A study conducted by Xiang 'Jacob' Yan, an assistant professor at the UF Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, and his team of researchers, including?a faculty member from Texas A&M University (Thomas W. Sanchez, AICP), conducted a study to understand how transportation professionals feel about the use of AI in their field. While #AI is helping to make travel more efficient and safer, the study revealed that not all transportation professionals believe that it is fair or even ethical. ?? The UF Human Systems Engineering Lab, affiliated with the UF Department of Industrial Engineering, is recruiting for a driving simulator study to teach older drivers about in-vehicle automation technologies. PLEASE SHARE! ? The research team is interested in studying how educational training influences older drivers’ psychological and physiological behaviors when driving with automation technologies. ? Participants must be between 65 and 89 years old, have been driving for the last three months with a government-issued license and be fluent in English to be eligible to participate. ? Compensation is provided for participation. The findings of this research can inform the development of effective training programs to improve drivers' understanding of driving automation, reduce misuse, and enhance safety on the road. Congratulations to Ruth Steiner and Mehri Mohebbi, Ph.D., affiliates of the #UFTI, for winning the Charlie V. Wootan Award during the 2025 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., in January. Dr. Steiner's team received the award for their STRIDE-funded project titled “A Framework for the Development of a Diverse Transportation Workforce in the Southeast Region,” a paper that provides actionable solutions that aim to create a supportive and innovative workforce within the transportation industry. The team included researchers from other universities, such as Virginia Sisiopiku, Dr. Mohammed Hadi, Muhammad M.
