Dina Khalaf, M.D., joined our Hematology and Oncology Division with 15 years of expertise in personalized blood cancer treatments and bone marrow transplants. "We can tailor treatment to match each patient's genetic profile," she said. part of UF Health's mission to transform blood cancer outcomes.

Wenjun Xie, Ph.D., an assistant professor of medicinal chemistry at the UF College of Pharmacy, has received a U.S. Department of Defense grant to continue to research how AI can be used to improve the way genetic disorders are treated. https://bit.ly/4c5Xi5N

The University of Florida has partnered with Valencia College to allow Valencia faculty to take graduate courses through the online master’s degree in medical anatomy and physiology program at no cost. This is to expand the knowledge of these educators in these topics to better educate undergraduate pre-health students. Athletes from around the world are competing in the 2025 World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships — and the UF Health sports medicine team is there to support them every step of the way. The championships are open to athletes ages 35 and older and are being held in the United States for the first time. “It’s amazing to see folks continue to be as active as they can as they get older, but we also have be aware of very different injuries or medical issues that occur. You could have a 35-year-old with a musculoskeletal issue and someone who is significantly older we might be more concerned about they’re not moving as fast, but we might be more concerned about cardiac related issues as an example," said Jason Zaremski, M.D., chief of the sports medicine division in the University of Florida department of physical medicine and rehabilitation and chief medical officer for the championships. UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute Director, Duane Mitchell is a world leader in the use of immunotherapy to fight malignant brain tumors. With support from The National Institutes of Health, Mitchell and his colleagues are developing treatments that boost the body’s natural defenses to fight cancer.

University of Florida researchers Michael S Okun, David Vaillancourt and Angelos Barmpoutis have developed AI software that diagnoses Parkinson's disease with over 96% accuracy, far exceeding traditional methods. The "Automated Imaging Differentiation for Parkinsonism" software: - Uses diffusion-weighted MRI technology - Works across all MRI platforms - Distinguishes between similar movement disorders - Could revolutionize treatment options This collaborative effort between medical experts and AI specialists demonstrates how technology can transform health care outcomes.
