Over the weekend, six our our students represented the University of Florida at the PRSSA Leadership Assembly in Charlotte, North Carolina. We are so proud of our student leaders in UF PRSSA and UF Alpha PR! #GoGators ??
This weekend six of our members represented our chapter at the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Leadership Assembly in Charlotte, North Carolina. While there, they experienced engaging conversations with other chapters, compelling presentations from keynote speakers and the election of the 2025-2026 PRSSA International Committee. We are extremely grateful to Myiah Hutchens and the UF Public Relations Department for continuing to provide opportunities for our members to attend such important conferences. We also would like to extend our thanks to our faculty adviser Mickey G. Nall, APR, Fellow PRSA for his constant support and commitment to our chapter. Leadership Assembly helps us grow as student leaders, and we are excited to bring back everything we have learned to our chapter! #GoGators ??

"It can be difficult for UF students to find common ground in the Swamp. The age-old struggles between Greeks and geeds, STEM majors and business majors and everyone in between can make it hard to feel like a single community. There is a place, however, where all UF students come together to connect — a place where students find their “herd”: Yik Yak." In the world of celebrity PR, relationships aren’t just about love – they’re about strategy. People love love, so why not take advantage of the public's perception of it? In “Love in the Limelight: PR Relationships Unveiled,” we dissect the strategy behind some of Hollywood’s favorite relationships. If you’re a public relations student and a total Gleek, this is the mash-up you’ve been waiting for! In “The (Unofficial) Gleek’s Guide to PR” by Riley B., we dissect how Season 1, Episode 17, “Bad Reputation,” explores how relationships and reputations are intertwined. We have a lot to cover, so let’s get started on this week’s assignment: becoming better communicators while watching “Glee.” Read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/evV7m72t Graphic by Josephine Cioffero

"As the new year approaches, we want to look back on the most memorable PR campaigns of 2024 – some that rang in success and others that dropped the ball." Here’s our campaign countdown written by Riley B. and Kaitlyn Chayeb: https://lnkd.in/eRy2HCZc

"Can a brand ever truly reinvent itself in the eyes of its audience, or do they have to reduce, reuse and recycle old material in the hopes that people will rediscover their love for it? Case in point: “Saturday Night Live” and “Dancing with the Stars”—two TV icons that have outlived most trends yet felt the tug of modernity in the wake of dwindling ratings. When it comes to entertainment, staying relevant is harder than finding parking on campus, and for these shows, the answer was hiding in plain sight." "Do you trust Darth Vader? Look up to Lord Voldemort? Admire Doctor Doom? Hopefully, you don’t. But what about another type of villainous cinematic icons – those who champion lies and spin? Of course, I am referring to the media professions, which have historically been depicted in film as wrongful and conniving. Interestingly, this trend may have an impact on how the public perceives these careers beyond the fictitious world. Recently, advertising executives and journalists joined the notorious ranks of the least trusted people in the world, and nearly 70% of the population distrusts the practice of public relations.?Clearly, communications could use some PR." Read about the five movies that portray advertising, journalism and public relations in a not-so-flattering light in our new blog by Riley B.: https://lnkd.in/edfxGBxp Graphic: Kenzie Kemerson

Thank you to our incredible faculty advisor for her kind words! Go Gators!

How lucky am I? I get to serve as the faculty advisor for UF Alpha PR, the student-run PR firm at the University of Florida. The first photo is Alpha’s talented e-board. We just spent a fabulous week networking and learning at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) ICON conference in Anaheim. This firm has grown from 20 to 70 members in just two years, and our client roster has increased to 10. ?? ?? We now represent clients from varying sectors, including consumer products, restaurants, authors, nonprofits, and UF departments and programs. The team is impressive – they go out and pitch (and win!) new business, write their scopes and contracts, conduct research, manage social media accounts, plan events, and secure editorial coverage. And, yes, they’ve even learned the joys of chasing down payments! (Sound familiar?) They’re not only getting real-world agency experience – they’re running a business and making money – and I couldn’t be prouder. Second photo: our team back in Gainesville. #GoGators! ?? ??
