Together with?European Livestock Voice?UECBV Livestock and Meat trade Union is proud to be part of officially launch the application for the Intergroup on Sustainable Livestock at the European Parliament! Over 50 participants gathered yesterday 19th?November 2024 to exchange on the need for better vision for a thriving?#livestock?sector. Why do we need an?#intergroup?at the EP? - To show that animal-source products have a rightful place in human diets. - To have a more holistic approach when considering all the dimensions of sustainability and the recognition of the interdependence of animal and plant production. - To make EU policies that impact livestock production more coherent. - To show the efforts of EU farmers have already made on the current high Animal Health and Welfare standards. Next week, political groups will decide which intergroups to support. After that, early December the EP plenary will vote. UECBV together with the European Livestock Voice encourages every MEP to defend a balanced and informed debate on livestock by backing this Intergroup on Sustainable Livestock at the European Parliament!

CELCAA has elected a new presidency team for the period 2024 to 2027 during its Annual General Meeting held in Brussels. Jochem Versloot, Co-Owner of the Jan Zandbergen Group, an internationally active meat trading company based in the Netherlands and an active member of UECBV - The European Livestock and Meat Trades Union, will take over the presidency. His term begins at a critical juncture with the imminent conclusion of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Agriculture and the introduction of a new European Commission and European Parliament with as of yet unclear strategic priorities. Mr. Versloot will continue to strengthen the crucial role of agri-food trade in European and global food systems and ensure consistent attention to the challenges of the sector. The new presidency team will be completed by Ignacio Sánchez Recarte as Vice-President and Flora Dewar as treasurer of the association. CELCAA extends its gratitude to the outgoing president, Marcel van der Vliet for his outstanding service and dedication over the past six years. Mr. van der Vliet's leadership has been instrumental in navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the shifting landscape of trade policies. Laurens Hoedemaker, President of UECBV?– the European association for meat production, meat trade and livestock trade – is very confident that the announced investigation by the People’s Republic of China will prove that there is no dumping of European pork products on the Chinese market. He stated: “Our meat producers are always looking for the markets that pay the best price for our high quality European pork products. For the ears, snouts, tails, feet and stomachs, that market is China. Countries that are currently unable to export to China, due to ASF, have difficulties in finding alternative markets and are receiving significantly lower prices.” In addition to that, the export of pork products to China has shown a decline from 3,726 to 2,673 billion €, meaning about -28% (source: Eurostat) over the last two years. Looking at this big picture, one can come to only one conclusion: “There is absolutely no dumping of European pork products on the Chinese market. We feel confident that the enquiries of the People’s Republic of China will prove this. We hope to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation with China, enabling us to provide the Chinese consumers with the high-quality, safe and sustainable pork products from Europe.” #PressRelease #UECBV #Pork #China

The European Livestock Voice, ELV, a multi-stakeholder group partnership in the livestock food chain of which UECBV is a member, has published its 5-point action manifesto for the upcoming elections in June. UECBV, alongside other stakeholders, met with Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Janusz Wojciechowski, on the past 15th of May. The EU Deforestation Regulation was the main topic discussed, with key concerns being raised, such as: ? The high level of additional administrative burden and ? Remaining uncertainties with worries about trade disruptions for the cattle sector. ?
