Ten reasons to get a Unified Data Platform Reason #6: The first rule of centralization is… The first rule of centralization is that you need all your data in one place. Once you have it, many use cases exist beyond reporting and monitoring. The number of analyses, tasks, and workflows is too long to list here, but the table below shows some of the things you can do with centralized data. The bottom line is that there is no centralization without centralization, normalization, and control over your data. That’s one of the many reasons why you need UDP.

Ten reasons to get a Unified Data Platform Reason #5:? Ownership, control, and freedom over your data Ownership, control, and freedom are three concepts that often get mixed up. Let’s take a closer look and apply them to the data on your PMS: Do you own the data on your PMS? ?Mostly, yes. You can add and delete data as you please; there is always a way to download it all. Often, your data, modified through anonymization or other processes, can be owned by the PMS and used in algorithms or other features, which then are sold back to you. This is a good thing: if they can use your data in a way you can’t and can deliver value back in a way you can benefit from it, and they do so without harming your practical ownership of the data, that can work for you. Do you control the data in your PMS? You don't control your data if you have limitations on what reports you can generate, how and where to move the data, and its uses. And are you free to use it as you see fit? Assuming you have your data, can you use it as you please? Can you easily move it into and out of other PMS? Can you mix and match with other data sources to get a complete view of your business? Can you run complex queries to get the detailed answers you require? If the answer is no to some or all of these questions, then even if you control your data, you are not entirely free to use it as you please. This is why you need a unified data platform. With all your data in one place, under your control, and with the right tools to move, manipulate, and analyze quickly, you own and control your data and are free to use it as you please. That’s one of the many reasons why you need UDP.

Ten reasons to get a Unified Data Platform Reason #4: You need it but should not build it. The picture below shows the tools and work that go into getting all your data in one place. This is much work. Have you heard about powerBi or Domo, Snowflake, or Databricks? How about DBT, Airflow, or Aybyte? Less likely. These tools and more are the basic building blocks to create an end-to-end data platform that fetches your data, normalizes it, and makes it available to answer your predetermined questions (BI) and help you look proactively around the corner (ML/AI). Once you buy or set up all these tools, you must use them to build what you want. These are known as “developer tools,” meaning they are meant for software engineers. So software engineers - consultants or on your team - must use these to buy what you want. That is a lot of time, and a lot of money. And then there is the ongoing cost. Unfortunately, software ages like milk, not wine. It requires constant entrance and improvement, which is also on you or your consultants. If you have tried to do this or done some fraction of this, you know how costly and time-consuming it is. If you have not, ask a friend who has, and save yourself a lot of time and money. The alternative is UDP. We build an end-to-end platform just for Real Estate that makes all these work out of the box. Then, you can customize it as you please. This is 10X+ times cheaper, faster, and better. That’s one of the many reasons why you need UDP.

Ten Reasons to Get a Unified Data Platform Reason #3: Your PMS used to be your entire system of record. Not anymore. In Real Estate, data is fragmented, and as a result, so is your business. Let’s take a walk down memory lane. Twenty years ago, you could run your entire Real Estate asset operations on one PMS. As the market matured and operations became more complex, more PMS systems entered the market. Now, each property management firm could pick its own PMS. For owners, using multiple operators often meant having their data in multiple PMS systems. This is where fragmentation started. Later, with the growing adoption of software, single-point solutions offering best-in-class functionality for specific needs entered the market. Not even vertically integrated owner-operators could keep their whole business in one PMS anymore. Add to that the increasing availability of market data, the growth of features and providers, and vast historical data of long-standing businesses—and the data fragmentation compounds. As a result, PMS systems are no longer your only system of record. A fragmented system of record means increasingly complex back-office operations, more inefficient centralization, slower, lower-quality decisions, and more blind spots ahead. UDP is a new paradigm for a unified system of record: all your PMS, single-point solutions, and external data sources in one place. With one single source of truth, your business is no longer fragmented, and you can make better, faster, and smarter decisions that increase tenant satisfaction and investor returns. That’s one of the many reasons why you need UDP.

Ten Reasons to Get a Unified Data Platform Reason #2: Relying on Your PMS Alone Won't Give You the Insights You Need Imagine running your entire multifamily operation on a single PMS. (Yes, we know it's not 1984—but just for a moment, go with it.) Now, when you try to extract data from your PMS to gain insights or generate reports, here’s what you might run into: - Limited Reporting Capabilities: Some systems cap reports at 30,000 rows, limiting your view. - Partial Data Availability: Some PMS offer part of the picture, but rarely the whole. - Customization Challenges: Want a custom report? Be prepared to write SQL and wait for permission to run it. - Programmatic Access? Sure—if you're willing to pay extra and navigate the complexities of data extraction, processing, and analysis on your own. - Costly Infrastructure Setup: Getting your data ready for reporting means setting up ETL pipelines, warehousing, query engines, and visualization tools. And who does all this? Often, expensive consultants. Data is simply too valuable to play a secondary role in your organization. With a Unified Data Platform (UDP), your data is centralized, validated, and ready to use. Now, you can easily generate reports, track KPIs, leverage BI for historical insights, and use AI to stay ahead—all within one platform. That’s one of the many reasons why you need UDP.

**10 Reasons You Need a Unified Data Platform (UDP)** Reason #1: wrangling your data costs you hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars monthly. Consider this example with the math to back it up: If you own or manage around 50 properties, you'll likely need at least 50 ongoing reports to operate smoothly. Some of these are weekly, others monthly or quarterly—each requiring different levels of data transformation to provide a clear view of your business. Take just the weekly report. Before using UDP, our clients reported spending around 20 minutes per report per property. For 50 properties, that adds up to 1,000 minutes (16 hours) every week just to deliver timely, reliable weekly reports. Once all reports are factored in, that total easily averages 50 hours per week (and some weeks are even busier!). Consider the reporting efforts of teams across marketing, operations, asset management, and finance—all ensuring consistency from property managers to regional leads to HQ. This time is essential for staying aligned on KPIs, improving tenant experience, boosting margins, and maximizing ROI. 50 hours a week (200 hours a month) is significant. Apply a hypothetical hourly rate of $60, and that’s $12,000 monthly just for reporting costs! With UDP, all reporting and monitoring happen programmatically. Standard and custom Excel sheets update daily without effort—saving you time and resources that go straight back into growth. That’s just one reason why you need UDP.
