Today is I Heart UD Day at the University of Delaware and the Department of Political Science & International Relations is raising money for the Undergraduate Experiential Learning Fund. This program is committed to supporting undergraduate opportunities to connect classroom theory and real-world practice. These transformational opportunities can include – but are not limited to – study abroad, internships, community service, and research projects. We’re excited to be fundraising for a cause our department is so passionate about and we invite you to join us by investing in our students’ futures. Every contribution to our Undergraduate Experiential Learning Fund helps ensure that all students, regardless of need, are able to benefit from the applied and experiential knowledge increasingly necessary to their future success and competitiveness. Your continued support does not go unnoticed, we appreciate every contribution made. We will be participating in the "Power Hour" from 2-3 PM this afternoon, so all donations made during that time will help us earn extra university funds. Thank you for your consideration! https://lnkd.in/e4haPr9N

This past winter session, senior Political Science major Mary Ladely had the opportunity to intern for the Office of Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. While serving in this role, Mary was able to speak with political staffers and constituents regarding issues that were important at the federal and local level, as well as attend events, write letters, and conduct research. She gained valuable insights into different policy areas and the management of political offices. Mary credits this experience with securing her a fellowship at Delaware’s State Legislature, where she works now. This experience was made possible thanks to support from awards funded by the Undergraduate Experiential Learning Fund. It is thanks to your contributions that students like Mary are able to take advantage of this transformational opportunity.? By contributing to our project page tomorrow on I Heart UD Day, you’ll be helping to ensure that more students have the chance to benefit from experiential learning and the connections made between in-class and applied learning. Thank you for your continued support! UD College of Arts & Sciences https://lnkd.in/e4haPr9N

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, our department had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for the day to meet up with some of our incredibly impressive alumni. Beginning the day with a tour of Union Station, thanks to Ken Altman (A&S, ‘03) from Amtrak, our 12 undergraduate students then went on to observe Senate hearings at Capitol Hill. After lunch, three career panels of alums working on the Hill ensued, discussing various topics from lobbying to working with politicians to everyday life at the Capitol. Special thanks to Andrew Miller (A&S, ‘15) for facilitating our Capitol Hill visit, as well as all of our career panelists. From there, the group traveled to the State Department to learn more about foreign service from Daniel O'Connor, Ph.D. (A&S, ‘88) and Megan Fuglestad (A&S, ‘23). Finally, our students ended the day at an alumni happy hour event hosted by Chair of the Alumni Advisory Board Nate Herman (A&S, ‘92) at the American Apparel & Footwear Association. We’d like to extend a special thank you to Andrew, Lauren Turenchalk (A&S, ‘20), Ruby Stojkovski (A&S, ‘14), and especially Nate for organizing this day and making these invaluable opportunities possible for our students! We are grateful for and appreciate all of our alums, especially those in the D.C. area who were able to be part of this experience. Thank you all and we look forward to continuing this tradition next year!
