The best of both worlds? Combining the latest innovations in AI with in-person language learning. Quality online education platforms provide language learners with a cost-effective and efficient solution. And yet, despite the pandemic, politics, and prices for housing, food, and transportation, there is still a strong desire for personal connection. Short-term study abroad programs offer students and professionals at any level and stage to refine their language skills, exchange culture, and advance their careers. Our English Language Institute’s Medical English program was recently featured on San Diego local CBS 8:?https://lnkd.in/gePSwqPm We’re excited to see our practicing and student health care professionals develop their communication skills – from demonstrating active listening and empathy with patients to diagnosis and treatment. Working with RIA, the humanoid robot, students refine not only their grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, but also their abilities to ask good questions, clarify responses, and adjust messaging for different types of patients. They do this in-person and receive immediate feedback from RIA, instructors, and their peers.?

RIA, a humanoid robot developed by Machani Robotics, helped July Medical English students with doctor-patient role play. RIA is a great actor and responds in real-time when you speak to her. The role play she conducts with our students helps them practice their medical English in context. Thank you, Shubha Koneru and Machani Robotics for offering our students an innovative way to practice their English, diagnostic skills, and bedside manner!

Last night women faculty and high level professionals from our Leadership Academy for International Professionals attended the Sally Ride Science Women in Leadership panel discussion where Ina Garten (Cookbook Author and Television Host), Michelle Hanabusa (Founder and Creative Director of UPRISERS + Co-Founder of Hate Is A Virus), and Margot Lee Shetterley (Author of “Hidden Figures”: the No. 1 New York Times Bestseller and No. 1 Hit Film) shared their vision on how women can help lead our nation and world to a better future. Thank you, Kelly Smith, for finding exciting conferences, forums, workshops, and panel discussions to address the individual academic and professional needs of each Leadership Academy participant. The Leadership Academy for International Professionals accepts university faculty on the 500 Scholars program and top professionals on the Bolashak scholarship program from Kazakhstan. It provides a tailor-made schedule of professional opportunities, classes, and a research project aimed at an area of improvement in each participant's field in Kazakhstan. Providing real-world experiences is what we do in our Leadership Academy for International Professionals (LAIP) program at UC San Diego Extended Studies International Programs Engineers, Alimzhan Kudibassov and Altynbek Ilyassov, got a personal tour of the Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood construction project at UC San Diego by the Hensel Phelps Construction team.
