The UCPCOG launches the first AI powered virtual caregiver assistant to help people with dementia or the caregivers who are helping them.

NC Association of Regional Councils of Government Partners with Civic Local Foundation for Collecting Donations Helping with Helene Recovery Raleigh, N.C., October 9, 2024 — The NC Association of Regional Councils of Government (NCARCOG) has partnered with Civic Local Foundation to serve as a trusted source to collect financial donations to help communities recover from the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Civic Local Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Civic and Local Government Credit Unions, shares the same core values of NCARCOG of being a resource to the state of North Carolina and its local governments. “Our goal is to be a resource and catalyst to help rebuild our state. We can’t do this alone and the partnership with Civic Local Foundation represents unity in our efforts to help support North Carolinians affected by this storm. We are grateful to everyone who has donated thus far and hope to continue to receive financial support to help impacted communities,” stated Justin Hembree, NCARCOG Board Chair. Through the collaborative partnership, NCARCOG will distribute funding to local government entities and employees impacted by the storm, assist with recovery efforts administered by regional Council of Government agencies, and help supporting organizations such as non-profits and local businesses to provide resources and emergency supplies. 100% of the administrative costs for disbursing the funds are being covered by Civic and Local Government Credit Unions. This means every penny donated will directly assist those in Western North Carolina who need it most. “Through partnerships we are stronger — expanding our reach to help our members, our neighbors, our families in need, said Ashley Ruffin, Chief Impact Officer for Civic and Local Government Federal Credit Unions. “As a credit union dedicated to local government, we want to do everything we can to support them and the communities they serve.” NCARCOG welcomes community and industry partners, supporters of NC local government, and the public to contribute and provide support to Western North Carolina by donating to Civic Local Foundation. The Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments (UCPCOG) is inviting qualified firms to join our On-Call Planning and Administration Services List for a five-county region in Eastern North Carolina. We are seeking firms with expertise in land use planning, zoning, and community development to support local governments. Services needed include long-range planning (such as Comprehensive Plans), zoning ordinance administration, regulatory amendments, and community development grant administration (e.g. Community Development Block Grant administration, US Department of Agriculture grant administration, and other U.S. Housing and Urban Development program administration). Are revitalization projects important for communities? Absolutely. The Town of Stantonsburg could not be more pleased with the number of ongoing projects to better serve our community. One of these projects is developing a plan for a historical site. Projects that usher in positive change are difficult without the support of internal and external stakeholders. The Town of Stantonsburg is extremely blessed to have partners at the NC Department of Commerce, Ben Farmer, Betsy Kane and the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments team, Professor Misun Hur and the ECU Department of Geography, Planning, and Environment students, Town of Stantonsburg Elected Officials and Staff, Ben Hitchings, FAICP, CZO Principal, Green Heron Planning, LLC, Meg Nealon, AICP, PLA, President, Nealon Planning, PLLC, and Rachel Cotter, PLA, RLA, Director of Design - Southeast, Weston & Sampson.
