Dr. R. Amanda Cooper, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Interpersonal Communication at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Cooper recently worked with other scholars on a research study called "Caregiving Artificial Intelligence Chatbot for Older Adults: A Mixed-Methods Study on Their Preferences, Well-Being, and Social Connectivity." As a mixed-methods study, this study reveals how older adults (65-84) use and adapt to technology like AI chatbots for health, well-being, and social connectivity. AI offers huge potential, providing benefits like reminders, chore help, and even companionship. However, challenges like usability, privacy, and tech dependence remain. Amanda Cooper, PhD., and Dr. John Christensen, PhD. We'd like to thank Bri Diaz, Senior Associate Director of Communications and Web Strategy at UConn's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for providing some of the photographs used in this post!

A great event!
I was honored to serve as a faculty expert last week for one of UConn’s Dodd Human Rights Impact Program’s democracy and dialogue events: “Freedom, Facts, and Filters: The Relationship Between Misinformation and Social Media.” I was very impressed with a wonderfully engaged group of students that kept us on our toes with great questions!

Dr. R. Amanda Cooper, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Interpersonal Communication at the University of Connecticut. Her research study: "Acknowledging dementia as an actor in the relationship: A facilitating mechanism promoting dementia family caregiver resilience" explores how dementia caregivers navigate their relationships through resilience processes. By acknowledging dementia as an active participant in their relationships, caregivers shift blame, accommodate the disease, and rely on memories, leading to personal growth and enhanced relational closeness.
