Proud of you and all the work you do, Bionca!
This weekend, I attended and presented at the 2024 CIVSA: Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association. It was amazing learning and listening to the different perspectives of student leaders across the country. This experience is one that I will remember forever. I want to give a special thank you to the student leaders from George Washington university who partnered with me on this project, Josh Daley and Trinity Williams. The three of us lead an excellent conversation around DEI and the great need for it in our institutions. UCLA and George Washington are lucky enough to be safe spaces for these types of initiatives at increasing diversity. Other universities are not. After learning about the struggles colleges in Texas face with the passing of SB 17 and the banning of Affirmative Action across the nation, now has never been a more critical time to use our voices on campus to create climates students can thrive in. There is much fear and uncertainty around the future of higher education in the nation. However, this conference and its attendees have empowered me to continue advocating for marginalized students to succeed in higher education.
