Researchers Benjamin Ellingson and Alfredo Liubomir Lopez Kolkovsky recently developed a novel MRI modality that simultaneously utilizes multiple nuclei to enhance scanning capabilities while reducing scanning times. This innovation, titled INTERLACED, allows for the simultaneous measurement of MR sodium signals and amine chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) maps. There are numerous potential applications of this innovation, including general imaging, metabolic studies, clinical diagnostics, and physiologic disease monitoring. Happy Birthday, Internet! Fifty-five years ago tonight at 10:30 p.m. PT, the first message was sent from 3420 Boelter Hall at UCLA over the ARPANET, the precursor to the internet, by a team of computer scientists led by Dist. Prof. Leonard Kleinrock of UCLA Computer Science. Join us for a lecture by Kleinrock today at 4:15 p.m. to learn more about this historic moment. #engineerchange https://lnkd.in/gtpscWvE

Professor Qibing Pei and team have recently developed a thermally responsive transparent semicrystalline copolymer for smart windows. Demonstrated in the below video, their new material can dynamically adapt to temperature changes, switching from clear to opaque to shield interior spaces from excessive heat. This novel material transitions to a scattered state at elevated temperatures, subsequently mitigating solar heat gain in hot weathers.?This new polymer could revolutionize smart windows, saving energy and reducing our reliance on the grid.
