Drought, flooding, drought again: UCLA’s Daniel Swain tells National Geographic that California’s ‘weather whiplash’ is bad news for wildfires. “The worst climate for wildfire is not one that gets perennially drier,” Swain said. Now, “you have enough water in the system at least every few years to regrow everything and then burn it off again.”

I'm thrilled to share that it's been around 3 months since I graduated from UCLA Fielding School of Public Health with my MPH in Environmental Health Sciences. The past 2 years have been quite eventful, and time has flown by. In addition to my degree, I also obtained my Leaders in Sustainability certificate from UCLA Environment. During my time at UCLA, I served as the president of the EHS department's Student Association. A big thank you to all the amazing mentors who guided me throughout my academic journey! As I embark on the next chapter of my professional life, I am currently on the lookout for new career opportunities. If you have any connections in the fields of climate, sustainability, data, health, media, environment, and more, I would love to connect with you ?? #EnvironmentalHealth #SustainabilityLeader

New UCLA research reveals the hidden role duikers—small African antelopes—play in dispersing seeds and maintaining tropical forest health in the Congo Basin ?????? By transporting seeds through defecation and regurgitation, these “forest gardeners” help shape biodiversity and ecosystem structure. Understanding seed dispersing animals and tropical forest structure “is critically needed to inform effective forest conservation and restoration,” said Elsa Ordway (she/her), director of UCLA’s Congo Basin Institute.
