This November for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, thoracic oncologist Dr. Amy Cummings, director of the Office of Cancer Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, reminds the community that lung cancer screening saves lives. For Yudy Machado, getting screened helped her catch lung cancer at stage 1. Yudy is now cancer-free and "absolutely recommends screening." “Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer-related death,” says Dr. Cummings. Congratulations to Karol Watson, MD, PhD, Co-director of the UCLA Program in Preventive Cardiology and Professor of Medicine/Cardiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, who was appointed by the White House to serve on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Advisory Committee on Minority Health. Dr. Watson (right) was recently sworn in by Rear Admiral Felicia Collins, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health and Director of the Office of Minority Health.
