Congratulations to Julia Trudeau, PhD student in our Pharmacological Sciences program, for receiving the Best Poster Award at the 9th International Cancer and Cognition Task Force (ICCTF) Meeting in Caen, Normandy, France!? ? Julia presented her research on exosomal microRNA profiling and chemokine signaling in cancer-related cognitive impairment, a study conducted in Dr. Alexandre Chan, PharmD, MPH, FCCP, FISOPP, BCPS, BCOP, APh’s research group at UCI. Her work identified a key exosomal miRNA upregulated in breast cancer patients experiencing cognitive impairment—findings that could help improve the quality of life for cancer survivors. ? ICCTF is the largest international group that focuses on the impact of cancer and cancer treatments on cognition among cancer patients. Congratulations to Julia and her co-authors!

A UC Irvine-led study reveals that cancer patients show significantly lower levels of the protein dynamin-1 (DNM1), both before treatment and after neurotoxic therapy, linking DNM1 to cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI). These findings position DNM1 as a promising biomarker and potential therapeutic target for managing CRCI.

After immigrating from Cairo, Egypt, Marian Khalil developed a strong interest in the pharmaceutical field and the prospect of contributing to the development of new medications. Now, as a UCI student pharmacist and a graduate of our BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences program, Marian is focusing on a career in research and pharmacy.
