We're looking for highly motivated and engaged interns to join the UCI CanSat team! UCI CanSat is an engineering team that represents UCI at the international CanSat Competition, placing 4th out of over a hundred teams last year. Interns will shadow our Mechanical or Electrical subteam, with the following responsibilities: - Learn how to operate a 3D printer/soldering iron - Observe the progress and engineering design of their associated subteam - Keep the lab space clean and organized; learn about lab safety - Occasionally present progress at general meetings - Ask questions! Founded in 2017, our team is an undergraduate engineering design project representing University of California, Irvine in the international CanSat Competition organized by the American Astronautical Society. Our multidisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, aerospace engineers, and computer scientists work together to design, build, and test a space-type system. This year's objective is to build a probe that can be deployed at an altitude of 700m, transmit telemetry in real-time, and use a parachute and auto-gyro descent control system to land safely. Last year, UCI CanSat placed 1st place in both the Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review stages. We also placed in the top 20 of the competition held in Stephenville, Texas. In addition to meeting our competition objectives, our team's goals are to provide all members with hands-on experience in engineering design. Over the 2018-2019 schoolyear, we'll go from brainstorming and concept generation, to launching our flight hardware at the competition! We are a small team where everyone has a critical part to play.
