We foster strategic alliances between the UC system and counterparts in Mexico.
关于我们
The University of California (UC) has a long history of strong partnerships and innovative collaborative efforts with Mexico. In 2019, AlianzaMX was formed through the integration of three preexisting UC systemwide programs: the UC Institute for Mexico and the United States (UC MEXUS), the UC-Mexico Initiative, and Casa de la Universidad de California en Mexico (Casa de California). UC Riverside serves as the host campus for AlianzaMX. AlianzaMX fosters strategic alliances between the UC system and counterparts in Mexico – with universities, and with government, industry and communities on both sides of the border. We seek the development and diffusion of knowledge that addresses issues of mutual interest. We aim to educate and train the next generation of binational leaders. We want to be useful to decision-makers in both countries, translating our research, and expertise into improved public policies. We will serve as a model for binational collaboration – one that works in full and equal partnership between the University of California and Mexico. * Developing and sharing knowledge that addresses issues of mutual interest to Mexico and the United States. * Education and training of the next generation of binational leaders. * Translating research and expertise into improved public policies for decision-makers in both countries.

Last month, I was fortunate to participate in the 2024 Mexico Development Lab in Mexico City! It was a privilege to learn about public policy issues in Mexico including social mobility, climate change and its evolving relationship with the US. I appreciated hearing the Mexican perspective on the strong trilateral relationship in North America. One takeaway that stood out — warranting further exploration — is the difference in the free trade of goods facilitated by NAFTA and now the USMCA as compared to the restrictions on movement of people and labor. I am grateful to the organizers (Alondra, Carmen, Karla), fellow participants, panelists, and to the University of California - Alianza MX! This experience will stand out as one of the most special during my time at University of California, Berkeley, Goldman School of Public Policy.
UC Berkeley Master of Public Policy '25 | ESG summer intern at the Inter-American Development Bank *Inclusive Development | Environmental & Social Justice | Tax4Dev | Care Economy*
This semester, I had the incredible opportunity to co-organize the 2024 Mexico Development Lab alongside Carmen Sanchez Cumming and Karla Neri. In the last week of October, we brought students from University of California, Berkeley, Goldman School of Public Policy to Mexico City for a transformative experience. I'm deeply grateful to have worked with such amazing colleagues and to have had the support of University of California - Alianza MX, whose generous funding made this trip possible. This year’s Lab provided us with the chance to engage directly with some of the most pressing public policy challenges in Mexico, including inequality, climate change, security, migration, and the complexities of the US-Mexico relationship. It’s inspiring to see how the Mexico Development Lab, now in its second edition, continues to foster meaningful exchanges between Goldman students and leading decision-makers working on sustainability and development issues in Mexico. A heartfelt thank you to the exceptional panelists for their generosity of time and expertise: Martha Bárcena (former ambassador of Mexico to the United States), Dr. Luicy Pedroza (Centro de Estudios Internacionales Colmex), Megan Hauptman (Instituto para las Mujeres en la Migración, AC (IMUMI), Dr. Carlos Flores (CIESAS), Dr. Raymundo Campos, Dr. Roberto Velez Grajales (Centro de Estudios Espinosa Yglesias), Sofia Ramirez Aguilar (México, ?cómo vamos?), Dr. Naín Martínez (Centro de Estudios Internacionales Colmex), Avelina Ruiz (World Resources Institute México) and environmental journalist, Emilio Godoy Thanks aslo to the staff of the Casa de la Universidad de California in Mexico City for their steadfast support. Finally, a special thank you to all the participants who made this year’s Lab truly unforgettable. Your insightful questions, active engagement, and positive attitude brought so much value and created an incredible group to share this academic and cultural experience with—thank you! Francisca Braun, Henry Ayala Abril, Carlos Galvan Falcon, Carlos Flores, Cinthia Magana, Julian B., Bryson Christy, Meghan Hale, Selena Perez, Malvin Heraldo N., Nico Weers, Zinan Yue, Pooja A., Diana Salazar, Sophie Helpard, Jacqueline Shore and Maksymilian Kwapinski. It was a privilege to help co-create this platform for learning, dialogue, and collaboration!
