Today marks the beginning of the new lunar calendar, which celebrates the arrival of spring in many Asian cultures. Each year of the lunar calendar is represented by one of twelve animals; each animal signifies respective traits and fortunes for the upcoming year. This year, the calendar indicates that 2025 is the year of the snake, symbolizing wisdom, passion, intuition, and charm. Lunar New Year brings families together and emphasizes mindful gathering. Here at UC WIT we consider you all family and look forward to gathering with all of you over the course of the year!

Over the past year and a half, I had the distinct pleasure of leading an amazing group of technology professionals from higher education institutions across the United States in the development of a toolkit focused on centering the safety and preferences of the LGBTQIA+ community in relation to the collecting, storing, and sharing of gender data and demographics. The toolkit is meant to be a resource for the entire campus community and we hope that you find it useful and share it with your networks. Thank you so much Cody Rae Lazri, Grey L. Pierce, Terri Pecora, Lalitha Subramanian, Ph.D., and Kait Wilcox for your commitment to creating a thoughtful and thorough document in the face of fast changing laws, regulations, and political movements. And for always keeping the community most impacted at the forefront of your minds. And thank you to our EDUCAUSE support team Keturah Young and Gregory Dobbin for helping us make it over the finish line and getting the toolkit published. https://lnkd.in/g5xQs_PD
