We are proud to highlight the achievements of our mechanical engineering senior, Megan Sheth, co-president of the Association for Women of Color in Engineering (AWOCE). Under her leadership, AWOCE has fostered an inclusive community, hosting events like the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Day. Megan's dedication exemplifies the spirit of innovation and inclusivity we value in our department. Read more about AWOCE's impact and Megan's journey here: https://lnkd.in/gt_AQcqQ
Several years ago, a handful of students came together to create the Association for Women of Color in Engineering (AWOCE), to create an inclusive space and voice for women-identifying engineers of color at UC. Current co-presidents of the group, Megan Sheth and Chloe Rajbhandari, shared about the group and how it has shaped their UC experience. The group hosts a numerous gatherings and events throughout the year, including regular vent sessions, and a newly developed event, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging day. The day featured a professional-wear fashion show with student and industry models, a presentation from CEAS' embedded counselor Amy Blankenship about resources available for students, as well as a session called uncomfortable conversations in the workplace, inspired by AWOCE members' lived experiences. Congratulations to MME's very own Oluwaseun Abiodun Adekoya on being named December's Graduate Student Engineer of the Month! We are so proud of him and his academic and research achievements in the area of self-driving electrified vehicle energy efficiency and safety. You represent us well!
Oluwaseun Abiodun Adekoya dreamed of becoming a pilot when he was young. After a series of plane crashes in his home country of Nigeria, his passion shifted from piloting planes to improving the safety of transportation. He chose to study mechanical engineering, believing it would provide him with the foundational skills and creative problem-solving abilities to impact the aerospace industry. Recently, he was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science. University of Cincinnati Mechanical & Materials Engineering https://lnkd.in/gWbBDBpQ

We are thrilled to announce that Shubham Agarwal has been honored with the Best MS Thesis Award for his outstanding research on classifying epilepsy seizure termination patterns using deep learning techniques. ? Shubham's thesis focuses on developing efficient deep-learning algorithms to classify epilepsy seizure data into two distinct termination patterns: Burst Suppression (BS) and Continuous Bursting (CB). By analyzing an annotated dataset derived from intracranial electroencephalogram (iEEG) signals, his work enhances the understanding of seizure termination—an area with limited existing research. ? This innovative approach to classifying seizure termination patterns holds significant promise for clinical practice. It could potentially improve patient outcomes through precise termination prediction and inform better seizure management and treatment strategies. This work was presented at the 44th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society. Shubham’s thesis was supervised by Dr. Manish Kumar from the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and Dr. Ishita Basu from the Department of Neurosurgery in the College of Medicine.? ? Please join us in congratulating Shubham Agarwal on this remarkable achievement!
