Last month, the Upstate New York section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers visited #UBuffalo and spent time in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering's Transportation Research and Visualization Laboratory. Engineers across the region had a chance to experience the motion simulator, our virtual reality tools and other cutting-edge research.

Today we welcomed Congressman Tim Kennedy for the announcement of additional funding to our unique wind tunnel! Our #WindEngineering researchers investigate extreme weather events and ways to make communities and infrastructure threatened by these events safer. The funding will add new instruments to elevate the tunnel’s capabilities.

At the regional competition, our #UBSEAS students finished first overall in every criterion except one, going on to earn second place at the steel bridge national competition. The concrete canoe team earned first place in the regional display category, while the seismic design team placed in the top 10 for their structural proposal. Earlier this summer, Negar Elhami Khorasani and her student Fernando Szasdi-Bardales presented ongoing research on post-fire damage assessment of reinforced concrete structures during the 13th International Conference on Structures in Fire.
