Do you have old wedding videos or boxes of family photos collecting dust? The Wildcats Memory Lab at the University of Arizona can help bring those memories into the 21st century and preserve them for future generations. Opening March 24 on the third floor of the Main Library, this do-it-yourself digitization space – run by University of Arizona Libraries – provides the equipment, guidance, and resources needed to convert analog media into digital formats. Spearheaded by Librarian Stacey Erdman, who leads digital preservation and archival digitization for the library, the lab offers a crucial service: “The name ‘memory lab’ is meant to capture the essence of what you’re doing in this space,” she says. “People inherit old media formats—VHS tapes of childhood performances, photo albums, camcorder footage—and don’t know what to do with them.
