"Whether you are a College of Education student learning and striving to impact those around you or a donor here supporting kids like me because of someone or something that has impacted you, we are all drawn here today by our passion for helping others. For that I would like to thank you all. Thank you on behalf of little girls who have watched their loved ones skip meals so we could eat. Thank you from parents, like mine, who have never had the opportunity to attend university, who now get to live vicariously through their children because of the generosity of people like you. Thank you from the teenagers who like me, truly didn’t know if they’d win their battle against mental illness and be here today. Congratulations to our very own Dr. McKay-Cody! Such a well deserved honor! ?? ??
2024 honoree Dr. Melanie McKay-Cody, a Deaf woman with Cherokee, Shawnee, Powhatan, and Montauk heritage and assistant professor in the College of Education, is one of the few scholars working to revive endangered languages, preserving cultural histories among marginalized groups. She is the only Deaf researcher specializing in North American Indian/Indigenous Sign Language (NAISL) in the nation, dedicating her life to its revitalization. As co-founder of Turtle Island Hand Talk, she leads transformative change within Indigenous Deaf communities. Her nationally recognized work enhancing the multicultural understanding of deaf education and culture has provided critical information to education communities, leaving a lasting impact. https://lnkd.in/gFsKm3eW

Exciting news! Dr. Renae D. Mayes is collaborating in a groundbreaking project to equip high school counselors with the knowledge to guide students toward STEM and engineering careers. ??? The project,?Developing Professional Learning Experiences in Engineering for High School Counselors, focuses on empowering counselors, often overlooked in STEM education, to support students in pursuing engineering and related fields. By helping counselors understand STEM pathways and key high school coursework, we aim to increase diversity and participation in STEM careers. Proud work alongside an incredible team from ASU! ??

The Elementary and Early Childhood Teacher Preparation Programs at the University of Arizona College of Education are dedicated to equipping future educators with essential skills, such as critical thinking and collaboration. Recently, our second-semester ICATS cohort had the opportunity to visit Mrs. Tingle's classroom in the Sahuarita Unified School District, where they engaged with students in phonics lessons. We look forward to supporting this group as they continue their journey toward graduation in December 2025!
