Advancing the semiconductor industry and growing well-paid jobs with cutting-edge education and research opportunities.
关于我们
The Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing (CSM) at the University of Arizona is powering both today’s semiconductor and microelectronic industries and tomorrow’s chip-scale quantum technologies and photonic devices. CSM encourages students at all levels to explore the various disciplines that can lead to fulfilling careers in the semiconductor sector. We are further expanding flexible and adaptable curriculum offerings to support individuals who want to upskill or change career paths to the semiconductor sector. CSM provides industry partners of all scales with multiple ways to build your workforce, access cutting-edge research and utilize world-class equipment. The University houses two micro/nano fabrication facilities—one in the College of Engineering and the other in the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. These centers, combined with world-class metrology and imaging facilities, serve the UArizona community as the workhorses for numerous extramurally funded semiconductor and microelectronics programs. For tomorrow’s components and devices, including nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, 2D materials, next-generation transistors and quantum communication, these facilities provide a vertically integrated manufacturing space to support a combined basic and applied research portfolio matched nowhere else.

This week students from the University of Arizona attended the?International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS) 21st?International Conference and Exhibition on Device Packaging?which brought over 900 global semiconductor packaging experts to Phoenix, Arizona. Kudos to IMAPS for allowing students to attend the terrific Professional Development Courses to learn all about the exciting new developments in advanced packaging of semiconductor components, and how these new technologies underpin the production of new AI and High Performance Computing chips! The students were joined by the UArizona Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing’s Dr. Liesl Folks and Connie Gardner, as well as Janet Hartkopf of Chandler Unified School District.?U of A is partnered with CUSD to co-develop the nation’s first Career and Technical Education program in Semiconductor Manufacturing, which will launch in Fall 2025 at Hamilton High School. https://lnkd.in/gQi9x5sd https://imaps.org/ https://lnkd.in/e5ANYEgG #semiconductors #workforcedevelopment #BearDown

News from CSM Director Liesl Folks: As 2025 begins, I am reflecting with gratitude on how much we accomplished in 2024 working with our many partners at the University of Arizona, throughout Arizona, the nation, and internationally. In addition to the grants awarded to two of our faculty as part of the Future of Semiconductors (NSF FuSe2) competition highlights include: > Co-development of the first-in-the-nation high school workforce development program, the Career and Technical Education program in Semiconductor Manufacturing (CTE-SM) which is set to launch in Fall 2025 at Chandler Unified School District. > Launch of several new undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Arizona, along with important co-curricular innovations such as the?FAST Track micro-credential?(https://lnkd.in/gxAGfu-k) and the?AI-Hardware Design League.?(https://lnkd.in/gUCPdvKE) > Partnering on the?Absolics-led NAPMP Substrates and Materials?facility and team that aims to make rapid advances in chip packaging technologies to increase US global competitiveness.?(https://lnkd.in/ea2w3qMx) In 2025, we look forward to completing our Nanofab clean room renovation project, which will yield an excellent facility for R&D, industry prototyping and training related to semiconductor, photonics and MEMS devices and systems. We will also move forward with increased outreach to recruit students to semiconductor sector-related studies, recognizing the talent shortages that companies are experiencing in Arizona and across the country. Coming up soon on February 6 is our University of Arizona College of Engineering?iExpo (https://lnkd.in/ge2A_rzT). Please consider exhibiting! This is a great opportunity to engage with and recruit talented students. Sending you the best wishes for a wonderful 2025 from Tucson! https://lnkd.in/gyXsxY2M
