A celebration of Diwali was recently organized at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Aesthetically Pleasing, an organization on campus that promotes inclusion and diversity through fashion, culture and style, hosted the event in coordination with the UAPB Office of International Programs and Studies. Jeunice Maxime, founder of Aesthetically Pleasing, said the purpose of the event was to bring the campus community together for a vibrant and meaningful cultural event that would allow students to experience and appreciate the rich cultural heritage associated with the holiday. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil, Maxime said. The event included lighting colorful lamps, as well as some traditional dance performances. Photo credit: Kaionta Dabney #Diwali #UAPB #SAFHS #StudyAbroad #Community #Culture

Farmers have until November 22 to submit applications for financial assistance in implementing conservation activities through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2025 program year. Applicants can sign up for the programs at their local U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service field service center. Please help us spread the word by sharing this post! Dr. Henry English, head of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program, said CSP assists producers maintain and improve their existing conservation systems and adopt additional conservation activities to address priority resources concerns. “Participants earn CSP payments for conservation performance—the higher the performance, the higher the payment,” he said. “CSP funding opportunities are available for agricultural land (cropland and pasture), nonindustrial private forest and urban agriculture operations.” EQIP contracts provide financial assistance to help plan and implement conservation practices to improve soil health, water quality, grazing and forest lands and establish or improve wildlife habitat, Dr. English said. EQIP can also help Arkansas farmers and landowners meet federal, state and local environmental regulations. “NRCS accepts applications for these two programs continuously – just keep in mind that to be considered for funding during this signup, applications must be received by November 22, 2024. Applications received after this date will be considered in later funding periods, subject to funding availability.” #Arkansas #Agriculture #USDA #NRCS #EQIP #CSP https://lnkd.in/gYNxDASv

Please help us congratulate the UAPB Small Farm Program! Its agricultural outreach work was highlighted recently at the joint Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development (BFRD) Program and 2501 Program Annual Project Directors Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. The meeting brought together agency professionals whose work is related to two of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) major outreach programs. The event marked the first time annual meetings of the two USDA programs were held together. “For the past two years, UAPB has been selected and invited to present and provide a project overview because of our success in these programs,” Dr. Henry English, director of the UAPB Small Farm Program, said. “Last year, we were invited to speak about our success implementing the BFRD Program, and this year, we had the chance to speak about the 2501 Program, which provides outreach and assistance to socially disadvantaged and veteran producers. We are currently the only organization that has been invited to speak about both programs, so this is a great honor for all of us in the UAPB Small Farm Program.” https://lnkd.in/g9Ypiv4F
